Elvina wrote the words to this song whilst in a service as her mind wondered from the preaching and delved into a deep thought of the cross and how Jesus made the sacrifice for the world. She didn’t have a paper so she wrote it on the flyleaf of her songbook. After church she ran to the Reverend and shared the poem she had received. The Reverend was amused. As it turned out another member of the congregation had presented a creative work of theirs to the Reverend earlier that week. This member was the church’s organist, John Grape. He had written a tune for a hymn but had no lyrics for it. The Reverend took Elvina’s lyrics to see if they could go along with John’s tune. He expected there to be changes to make the two fit together but to his utter surprise and joy, the lyrics and tune fit flawlessly! If that isn’t the same God working in these individuals!
