Jesus say's we shouldn't put God to the test, yet in the old testament. Three follows of God went into a furnace to prove to a pigeon king that God would protect them. Is that not putting God to the test. ?

They were following God's command, not trying to get God to follow their commands. That is the difference. God's knowledge is unlimited, and He will do what is best. Our knowledge, on the other hand, is not only limited, but flawed. We should not presume to know better than God and try to get Him to follow our will. Rather, we should humble ourselves and submit our will to Him. Jesus lived by this principle, and humbly obeyed the will of His Father in every instance.

No you got the story wrong. The three men in the furnace… the King of that time had made a statue and forced people to worship it, but there was three men that refused because it was idolatry which is against God. The punishment was that they were to be thrown into a fiery furnace, they never said that God would save them, they were ready to become martyrs for their faith, but God saved them and showed the king and the people around that there was only one true living God. So Jesus is right and he never contradicts himself. Hope this helps. God bless.
