Asklepios was a doctor. Jesus brought a moral message. Sacrifices on alters in temples were performed in Asklepios (and Jewish) temples. The messiah brings the end of ritual animal sacrifice in temples. Jesus brought the end of ritual animal sacrifice to the gods and the end of Jewish ritual animal sacrifice to God. The comparisons of JC to Attis, Adonis, Asklepios, Mithra are all spurious

@What's The Takeaway? I'll go through them in order. If I'm wrong about something feel free to explain what I got wrong: 1-3. The passage in question does not refer to Jesus. It refers to the serpent and the women, saying that their descendants will hate each other. Don't know how that counts as a prophecy of Jesus in the slightest. 4-6. The first passage says that Abraham's descendants would be a blessing on the Earth; it has nothing to do with a specific descendant. The other passages say the same thing. 7. It says the sceptre shall not depart from Judah until someone comes (unclear who). One could possibly stretch the "prophecy" (really a blessing) to refer to something Jesus did but it really has nothing to do with Jesus being descended from Judah. Not that Jesus's lineage could possibly be confirmed by anyone. Maybe Jesus claimed he was descended from all this people but why should we believe him anyway? 8-9. "he will delight in the fear of the Lord" clearly rules out Jesus, unless God can delight in fear of himself. Not that this prediction that one of Jesse's descendants will be a righteous man is all that amazing. Him also being a descendant of one of Jesse's sons (not named specifically) is basically required if he is a descendant of Jesse. I'll cover the rest of them tomorrow if you like, if you make an attempt to address these. I know they aren't the biggest prophecies, but a list of 100 prophecies isn't as impressive if only a few are even remotely credible (I'm sure I can narrow down the list to just a few credible ones at the very least).

The argument is not that they are exactly the same. The argument is that the Hellenistic pantheon of gods existed in the same cultural context, era and area as the early Christians. Almost all of them would have known about the Greek gods and recognized the tropes and similarities. Asclepius was born of a union between the god Apollo and a human woman, he then became a healer and then miraculously healed people that would come to the temple and worship him. It's not exactly the same as Jesus who was also born of a union between the Holy Spirit and Mary and then went on to heal people. It's just a theme that obviously influenced the gospel narratives. They took the theme and used it to compete with the surrounding Hellenistic religions in the area.

The fact is nowhere in any Roman history does Jesus exist. There are many stories of magical beings some born of Virgin mothers. Yet, no one can prove any God of anytime in history ever existed. It’s the superstition that weak people have needed throughout history which is why Gods save the poor, the poor need a God more than anyone else. Today there is big money in religion, people who claim some great connection to an invisible God are flying private jets. I’m sure this channel makes a few buck too.

@@InspiringPhilosophy None of those people were alive when Jesus was, none of those people ever saw Jesus. The great Crucifixion and resurrection is not in Roman contemporary history. Tacitus history, would be like your grand children writing about a WWI soldier. Some people say Josephus was wrong with his creation of James Christ. The story is just a story. Sure there may have been a guy named Jesus who was causing the Jewish leaders problems and he may have been dragged by the Jews to the Romans to be crucified, then the embellishments begin...30, 60, 100 and 300 years later we have a water to wine, spiritual healer. Then total silence for 2000 years? I'm sure the great end of times is any day now.
@InspiringPhilosophy5 жыл бұрын
Neither did any of our sources on Alexander the Great. Arrian, Plutarch, and Diodorus lived over 300 years after he existed. Yet that doesn't seem the bother you. Most of the people who have lived today have no contemporary sources. No historian says you need contemporary sources for a person to have existed. That is just silly. No historian that specializes in Josephus says he was wrong on his James passage. Carrier just made that up.
@obijuan30045 жыл бұрын
InspiringPhilosophy, Alexander the Great is not a religion, poor example. I have heard lots a debate in my lifetime about whether or not Jesus had a brother. I don’t care one way or the other. My point is, if Jesus pissed of the Jewish leadership and was taken to be killed by the Romans and decades later there were stories of the incident to create a religion, human nature says that some embellishments were added. Then 300 years later Constantine creates a virgin born, water walking, wine to water, spiritual healer that is God but not God, and 1/3 of a holy trinity, superstition . Three hundred years of carefully chosen embellishments. But this mighty soul never had one word written about him in Roman records. It’s time for humanity to set aside superstitions. The US Constitution freed humanity from two things, Royalty and Religion. With those freedoms humanity has flourished. Now religion is trying to hold back humanity again... I don’t want to see this nation end out like the Arabs did.
@Nameless-pt6oj2 жыл бұрын
Watch your language please. He’s not referring to Alexander the Great as a religion, you straw manned him. He’s referring to the person. Christianity is not holding humanity back, it’s directing them towards Heaven, the New Earth where we can truly advance and be with the Lord, and the evidence for His resurrection is all there, IP did videos on that too. It’s possible that stories about Jesus were embellished just like it’s possible that Hitler never really killed himself but escaped to Argentina, just like it’s possible that aliens could’ve created us, but are these things probable? The Constantine thing is just a shallow conspiracy theory that no scholar takes seriously.

@Omoile Charles Snr I learned this nonsense in college from atheists who were anti Christian. Many Christian philosophers and unbiased atheists debunked the comparisons. I don't even remember the names because of how useless and untruthful it was. I think the one used by atheists is Adopinus or Adolphus, I don't know. All I know that there is a stronger case for Jesus Christ for dying, and resurrection and existing. Because of the time stamps of the scripture that were written, some in less than a year, some in months. Other comparisons is usually a century later or decades later.

To conclude this: All Middle eastern religion are borrowing elements of their every stories. It just happened that Christinity prevailed because of constatine and conquering other places.

Y’all are delusional. Jesus is the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through Christ Jesus. If you need to compare the Son of God to a mortal man, I guess you’re in big trouble my friend. “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” 1 Corinthians 1:18
@Kevorama02055 жыл бұрын
Perhaps people shouldn't be perishing because your message seems foolish to them. Though anyone can say "my message seems good only to those who already believe in it". It's not a particularly interesting observation.
@guillermo39475 жыл бұрын
Kevin I didn’t invent that, it’s written in the Bible.
@Kevorama02055 жыл бұрын
@Guillermo Yes, it’s from the Bible but not a particularly interesting observation. Either way, God probably shouldn’t expect a foolish-sounding message to be well-received.

@Abraham Girt Jesus is a False Messiah According to Jesus’ admissions, as well as the Bible’s prophecies, Jesus of Nazareth could not have been the Messiah. This of course, would invalidate Christianity as we know it. The compilation presented here shall be split in three sections. The first shall be the biblical prophecies that were made in order to identify the messiah, which Jesus does not fulfill. The second shall be the prophecies that Christians use to say that Jesus was the Messiah, yet they clearly fail. The third set shall be the prophecies and statements Jesus made yet they are false and have never came true. Prophecies to Identify the Messiah, Which Jesus Does Not Fulfill: 1) Matthew 1:23 says that Jesus (the messiah) would be called Immanuel, which means “God with us.” Yet no one, not even his parents, call him Immanuel at any point in the bible. 2) The Messiah must be a physical descendant of David (Romans 1:3 & Acts 2:30). Yet, how could Jesus meet this requirement since his genealogies in Matthew 1 and Luke 3 show he descended from David through Joseph, who was not his natural father because of the Virgin Birth. Hence, this prophecy could not have been fulfilled. 3) Isaiah 7:16 seems to say that before Jesus had reached the age of maturity, both of the Jewish countries would be destroyed. Yet there is no mention of this prophecy being fulfilled in the New Testament with the coming of Jesus, hence this is another Messiah prophecy not fulfilled. Prophecies Christians Use to Verify Jesus as the Messiah, Yet Clearly Fail: 4) The gospels (especially Matthew 21:4 and John 12:14-15) claim that Jesus fulfills the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9. But the next few verses (Zechariah 9:10-13) show that the person referred to in this verse is a military king that would rule “from sea to sea”. Since Jesus had neither an army nor a kingdom, he could not have fulfilled this prophecy. 5) Matthew (Matthew 2:17-18) quotes Jeremiah (Jeremiah 31:15), claiming that it was a prophecy of King Herod’s alleged slaughter of the children in and around Bethlehem after the birth of Jesus. But this passage refers to the Babylonian captivity, as is clear by reading the next two verses (Jeremiah 31:16-17), and, thus, has nothing to do with Herod’s massacre. 6) John 19:33 says that during Jesus’ crucifixion, the soldiers didn’t break his legs because he was already dead. Verse John 19:36 claims that this fulfilled a prophecy: “Not a bone of him shall be broken.” But there is no such prophecy. It is sometimes said that the prophecy appears in Exodus 12:46, Numbers 9:12 & Psalm 34:20. This is not correct. Exodus 12:46 & Numbers 9:12 are not prophecies, they are commandments. The Israelites are told not to break the bones of the Passover lamb, and this is all it is about. And Psalm 34:20 seems to refer to righteous people in general (see verse Psalm 34:19, where a plural is used), not to make a prophecy about a specific person. 7) “When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.” Hosea 11:1. Matthew (Matthew 2:15) claims that the flight of Jesus’ family to Egypt is a fulfillment of this verse. But Hosea 11:1 is not a prophecy at all. It is a reference to the Hebrew exodus from Egypt and has nothing to do with Jesus. Matthew tries to hide this fact by quoting only the last part of the verse (“Out of Egypt I have called my son”). 8a) “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2 The gospel of Matthew (Matthew 2:5-6) claims that Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem fulfils this prophecy. But this is unlikely for two reasons. 8b) “Bethlehem Ephratah” in Micah 5:2 refers not to a town, but to a clan: the clan of Bethlehem, who was the son of Caleb’s second wife, Ephrathah (1 Chronicles 2:18, 2:50-52 & 4:4). 8c) The prophecy (if that is what it is) does not refer to the Messiah, but rather to a military leader, as can be seen from Micah 5:6. This leader is supposed to defeat the Assyrians, which, of course, Jesus never did. It should also be noted that Matthew altered the text of Micah 5:2 by saying: “And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah” rather than “Bethlehem Ephratah” as is said in Micah 5:2. He did this, intentionally no doubt, to make this verse appear to refer to the town of Bethlehem rather than the family clan.

This isn't a 'philosophy' channel - it is a Christian mission channel. This should be made more clear in the video, since the agenda is religious.

Duh..Are you blind or what ? This is a christian philosophy channel which is aimed at explaining the Bible and also refuting the claims of agressive rabid atheists who brings up these kind of mythicist claims.. Maybe they should research more instead coming up with these conspiracy theories. I wonder why Jews are supporting these keyboard atheists ?

This video misses the forest for the trees. Or, in other words, it's a straw man fallacy. It argues semantics, and details--that nobody is really debating. Bringing back to life--is different than resurrection? We get it--it's not exactly the same--but who was saying that? But, there are similarities? And the point is---similar stories existed. Of healing saviors, resurrections and such. None of this means Jesus wasn't real or unique--but, did these ideas exist before Jesus? Yes.
@VulcanJedi20064 жыл бұрын
there are so many similarities--it's silly to say otherwise--here is one: the early symbol for Jesus was an anchor with a serpent like dolphin wrapping it---and what is the symbol for Asclepius? A stick with a snake--wrapping it--and he was a healer. It's not "too vague to create a connection"--lol? That is a non-sequitur--not a fact! Not science! Ha---it's a connection--and we can make it! We are not forbidden from making a connection---we are not in your Baptist Sunday school anymore--where you can shun us from the cookie and tea time. You are using vague ad hom and status fallacies "cherry picking" and just bullying people into agreeing with you. It's obvious they are similar--or and you said "the devil is in the details" so therefore--if we question you--we are in league with the devil. And then saying that the stories are different--opposites--so therefore--they have no connection? They have a connection. They are similar. Leave it at that if you want--but be honest.

@@VulcanJedi2006 You're right on the money. I have no problem with Jesus or with today's Christians but these videos are moronic. The guys whole argument is it's not 100% the same, so there's no correlation even though there's a multitude of similar characters before Jesus, that did similar things, and speaking of similar things lets not even bring up the bible and how many things they stole from other religions!
@Nameless-pt6oj2 жыл бұрын
IP has never cherry-picked or bullied anyone. Not everyone who questions Christians is in league with Satan, there are people who ask genuine questions and are searching for truth while there are others who just want happiness over truth. There may be connections, but they are far too general to be direct copies.
