Nigel Cromie has Tungsten Carbide balls ... that are even Nickel Chrome plated. The bridge made me very nervous.

that looks insanely dangerous and for some strange reason i want to do this.
@Greg_Chase Жыл бұрын
It's astonishingly dangerous. Hitting the water at high speed is completely different from diving in from the side of the pool. The elasticity of water vanishes as the speed of your entry into it increases. Water 'gives way' and elastic recoil is a 'gentle resistance' if you dive in from the side of the pool. If you jump off the high dive, your speed when you enter the water is much higher. If you 'belly smack' at that speed, you know what happens. In a boat at these speeds............ well I won't get graphic. There is no 'give way', there is no 'elastic recoil' offered by water when you enter it at high speed. There is no elasticity at all. Well, there is as much elasticity as that offered by a brick wall. .

Powerful! On water, the control is not at all like on land, and when the pilot is walking in the wake of another vessel, it is generally incomprehensible how he keeps his own at such a speed. I was especially struck by the passage under the bridge - the testicles of the guys are probably made of tungsten))))

Tell me How do you damp all distructive vibration to protect your split shaft engine? And is it affecting your clearance from blades tips to the inside cowling walls? Does your labyrinth seals wear more? How's your engine thrust bearing and radial bearing?
@MrBlaadieblaa Жыл бұрын
Wow you know some difficult words!
@nigelcromie990 Жыл бұрын
Hey mate! we have the engine mounted on nylon bushes at the back and also on a hanging mount at the front which allows the engine to grow and shrink with the temperature it produces. But at the sometime it is resonably solid so we don't have any issues with blade clearances, bushes or bearings. Unless something else goes wrong which puts pressure on the bearings.

man o man, you have to work so much harder to keep up to the lead boat let alone pass him...pummeled by the lead boat's rooster tail, poor visibility, and taking whatever line the lead boat leaves you to name a few, makes for a busy and challenging day...it would be cool to see heart rates...I know mine is higher from just watching...
@JxH Жыл бұрын
I've done about 140 kts (~260 kph) on water. It was aboard (LOL) the neighbour's float plane (a good one, with a big engine). He took me for a flight, and he did a very high speed, very long duration extended touch-and-go, skipping across a nearby lake at an indicated 140 kts. Then, for the icing on the cake, he slammed the throttles forward, yanked the stick back, and took off near-vertical up to 1000-feet before leveling off. Yeah, float planes are very very very fast boats.

This has to have a high death rate between the bridge pillings and the logs how do they make sure somebody just won’t be fishing in a kayak on the course that day?
@quadelewis6433 Жыл бұрын
It's a well know event and that rivers not the safest anyways it's not advised to go in it there neer Whitecourt the death rate usaly come from people in kayaks getting stuck in the log jams and the people drowning and the bridge really is like a 75 foot gap it's pritty easy to miss in a 6tf wide boat even if your going stupid fast they pritty much hold the races there because it's to dangerous for anything elce but it not white water so the boats can actually go fast
@quadelewis6433 Жыл бұрын
One year they had to use the other river in town and the actually had problems with people on the river and they shut it down on day 1 so there usaly pritty good with that I think they even banned the really fast boats that year too
