Really loving the show and wanted to say thanks for the recommendation! The games they come up with are so clever, fun and equitable. Have you thought about inviting them on to your podcast as a guest? If not for this one, maybe one of the other strategy games you cover that they may be into. It would be a super fun way to get some answers to what happens to their discarded challenge tools or learn more about some of their game development and strategy. 🤓✌💛

As a big Jet Lag fan this podcast existing at all is a crazing clashing of worlds, it would be so cool for them to interact! Some of what you're talking about (mostly strategy talk in episode recaps + occasional off-season game design eps) they cover in their own weekly podcast The Layover (which Taran and Sasha referenced a few times) on Nebula, it's a really fun listen. This week they even had a whole bit at the top about RHAP and how they're now pushed down to the second biggest podcast for their own show
@barbijackson71744 ай бұрын
@@ihappentobejosh8977 Thanks - I do want to check out their podcast for sure. They put so much into their game design it's really impressive and I certainly don't mind contributing to that in a very small way. 🙂 That's awesome they referenced RHAP too. Real recognize real, love to hear it!

Yeah, the cliffhangers are definitely sometimes overly forced but since Jet Lag's main revenue is getting Nebula signups, making people want to pay for the next week's episode as much as possible makes sense
@Dreamprism4 ай бұрын
Good point. The cliffhanger might not do much in terms of week to week viewers, but it does increase the likelihood of someone not yet on Nebula subscribing to it.
@JimCullen4 ай бұрын
Yeah this season especially is, I think, the first time the show has been a "Nebula Original", so funded directly by Nebula/Standard the company. So it makes sense that there would be heavier on the cliffhangers. The only problem is, as a Nebula subscriber, I still have to live with the cliffhangers! I just get to see the cliffhanger one week earlier, and the resolution to it one week earlier...

ambo: short for ambulance. They're a paramedic. battler: means what it sounds like. One who battles. They're tough. chucked a sickie: took a sick day, skipped work by claiming (true or otherwise) to be sick chockers: short for "chock-a-block", crammed full, very busy. But I'll admit, coming up with the right answer was hard. "You absolute servo" makes no sense to me. Servo = service station/petrol station. Americans would probably say gas station. What does it mean to call someone a servo? Unclear. But "you absolute X" usually means "you idiot", whatever X is. So probably that. Tockies doesn't mean anything. I think they said that on Layover. "Hard yakka" means hard work. In context I _guess_ it means "damn, sounds tough", but usually it's more along the lines of saying "I was working hard". "arvo" is afternoon, and the rest of that sentence is very straightforward once you know that. From memory I think C was the correct answer, but it's a bit of a stretch from my (Australian) perspective.

I really like that Sam and Tobi made the pivot they did in regards to the challenges. It does make me wonder if it's an editing clue for Ben and Adam to fail to some degree and have to play from behind for at least a day (could be more if a steal goes horribly wrong)

RE: Sasha’s where’s your Spirit Air? Australia has a weird airline industry especially since Covid. We basically have two main Domestic Airlines (the dominate Qantas (and their “low cost” holiday subsidiary JetStar) and Virgin, who are rebuilding after they almost went bankrupt from COVID) there are some smaller airlines who mainly serve regional airports with some flights between big cities (REX and until recently Bonza). That basically means Qantas and Virgin have a duopoly (with Qantas effectively having a Monopoly between many cities). Also land transport between cities suck … there have been pushes to have High Speed Rail along the east coast (Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and other big towns) but each pitch struggles to gain traction. But it adds to the duopoly they airlines have. I’m an Aussie
@JimCullen4 ай бұрын
The lack of action on highspeed rail is so frustrating. Brisbane to Melbourne is basically the perfect setup for it. They're _extremely_ highly trafficked (each of the pairs: Sydney/Melbourne, Sydney/Brisbane, Brisbane/Melbourne were all in the top 50 busiest air corridors in the world, pre-COVID, at 3rd, 18th, 34th respectively). Add in the populations of some intermediate cities, like GC, Newcastle, and Canberra, and you could absolutely make a viable high-speed rail route. But unfortunately despite the huge amount we spend on roads, there just isn't political willpower to do really good public transport in this country, _especially_ inter-city public transport.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw a sock 😂. Like Taran said, any off-center force is going to mess up the push on the cart, so I was thinking it'd be pretty hard, but he made a compelling meta argument for why it probably works out for them. Anyone else inextricably associate Staying Alive and I Will Survive because of The Office?

@justinbchen4 ай бұрын
Yeah the medium affects the necessary structure. On TV the cliffhangers need to be best at bringing you back after a week. On streaming, the cliffhangers need to be best at making you go to the next episode. In this case, the conditions are more like streaming because they want to convert people from KZbin onto Nebula so they can get the immediate resolution to the cliffhanger.

@j-trainchannel46264 ай бұрын
I disagree quite a bit with both of their philosophies on memorization. As much as it might seem like “just memorizing” is good enough, you can almost always get more out of your memory with mnemonics. Sasha’s concerns seemed especially silly to me. You’re not gonna mix up dish and dinner looking at the flag, because you’ll never then conclude the flag’s country is Bangladinner. If a mnemonic leads you astray, memorization without tricks absolutely would have the same problem. It’s not like people using mnemonics aren’t also trying to directly memorize. That’s the final goal anyway.
