I highly encourage you to look into Hideki Naganuma's other stuff like "The Concept of Love." Generally, just check out the entire OST he did for Jet Set Radio and Future, as well as "Ain't Nothin' Like a Funky Beat" and "Pumpin' Jumpin'," both of which he made for indie games.

The Jet Set Radio series is more about the underground music scene of Japan in the late 90's/early 2000's. They could have made one as an arcade game, but its more an objective based game (generally spraying graffiti).

Same team made an arcade game called "Ollie King" and it has a very similar style.

YES!! Finally a Jet Set Radio track on this channel! The entire series is gold, and Hideki Naganuma is incredible. JSR had such a unique sound for a video game soundtrack. I hope there are more JSR/JGR tracks in store, and Sonic Rush too, that's a phenomenal OST. Just so you know Jet Grind Radio/Jet Set Radio was a Dreamcast game. Jet Set Radio Future however was an OG Xbox game.

@ʙ ᴇ ꜱ ᴛ ᴇ ꜱ ᴛ Jet Grind Radio is indeed just the US name of Jet Set Radio. Game was released on Dreamcast and later on PC. Unfortunately Future was only ever released on Xbox. But it was bundled with the console later on, so a lot of Xbox owners have likely played Future.

Hideki Naganuma is an electronic music god and such an insanely unique style. JSR (known as Jet Grind Radio) was originally on the Dreamcast, and JSRF was on the original Xbox. You can play an HD Remaster of the original JSR on PC these days, the gameplay is very, very arcadey but is honestly in my top two games of all time. Usually on sale, can be cleared in 4-5 hours for a new player. Very highly recommend taking an evening one day sitting down and trying it out!

Jet Set Radio Future was an Xbox release-title and is STILL extremely hard to find to this day. It came either in a single disc or the version I had, bundled onto the same disc as Sega Racing GT. Because Xbox games are extremel difficult to emulate, it's really hard to find it as an emulator as well. The original (Jet Set Radio) is available on xbox game pass and was a free release on Steam a few years back, but JSRF (which I think is objectively better than the first one!) is much harder to find and if you want to get a disc, it'll run you upwards of 60-70 dollars. It also won't play in an Xbox One (but it WILL play, albeit with some framerate issues) on a 360.

Oh man I LOVE Hideki Naganuma’s stuff! He wasn’t just the music composer for the Jet Set Radio games, he also did Sonic Rush, the Kurohyō: Ryū ga Gotoku games (spin off of the Yakuza games, love the music from those) and Dead Heat Riders. He also did music for a bunch of other games (that he wasn’t the composer for) and a few songs for a couple anime too (“LOVE SENSATION" and "SKY-2-HIGH" for Air Gear, credited by his nom de plume ‘skankfunk’, and an uncredited remix "Fuusen Gum -Gintama mix-" for Gin Tama)

@Vulkans2 жыл бұрын
Even though I never thought JSR or JSRF were all that, I did love the soundtracks. My favorite Naganuma track is Boarder 70. My Naganuma related story: Way back when, there was a skateboarding arcade game also scored by Hideki Naganuma called Ollie King, the arcade cabinet featured a physical skateboard fitted with sensors that you would stand on and pivot like a real skateboard, along with a pair of guard rails on the sides so people wouldn't fall off the thing and paralyze themselves while playing. Somebody in one of the local arcade joints that carried the game had the bright idea to remove the guard rails for that extra bit of realism, everybody loved it up until some kid got into it too hard, slipped and broke his arm plus some teeth. Fast forward a month later, the place got sued to the ground and was forced to close. Moral of the story: If you want to try your hand at skateboarding, do it on the horribly unsafe skateboarding game instead and make big bank when you don't stick the landing. For a heapin' helping of videogame funk, I would recommend the song "Never Get Out of the Car" from the game Interstate '76.
@leon40002 жыл бұрын
Another Moral of the story: 1) You can only do so much to do everything right in arcade game development, and yet it takes one person to go and undo the work you did for the people who could play it safe. 2. Some people aren't so smart, right down to not letting anybody in the personnel of whoever owned the arcade joint what the aforementioned idiot did. 3. Any smart person would report that! For the guy running the arcade possibly unaware of what was happening until after he got hit with lawsuits.

Jet Set Radio Future is maybe similar to some of the skateboarding games like Tony Hawks Pro Skater in terms of movement, but crossed with a bit of SSX... But it's also a bit more of a collect-a-thon game, like maybe Banjo Kazooie or the like... You know? 3D exploration, finding collectables etc... Now and again you'll have to contend with the police coming after you or you might have to take part in races or a kind of keep-away game with a ball or something... I think the original Jet Set Radio game (I think called Jet Grind Radio in some region(s)) was somewhat different... Bit more like older Tony Hawks Pro Skater, with a time limit and you select areas rather than traveling between them... Anyway, I do really enjoy the soundtrack to these games, but god, one time I was crazy enough to stay up all night playing the game and, in my sleep deprived state, the music really tripped me out lol. Probably not the best thing to listen to in such circumstances... Unless you want to trip out, in which case it's great ^_^;; Do it responsibly though...
