For anyone who wants to know instead of taking the dirty subway when you get to Jamaica station you can take the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) into Penn Station for around the same amount of money. It’s got More room, it’s cleaner and has a bathroom.
@xYasago2 жыл бұрын
Next time you take the airtrain to Jamaica, I would highly suggest you use the Long Island railroad going to penn station instead of taking the subway to get to manhattan. The LIRR costs a couple bucks more than the subway but will get you to Manhattan much quicker and much more comfortably (and dare I say more safely). Penn station also has NJ transit so you can connect to hoboken, if that’s your final destination. Though for your itinerary I would just fly to Newark.

The main duty free shop definitely requires price comparisons. However, I have found that many of the other shops in Heathrow offer great deals for non-UK travelers. They will immediately discount the VAT percentage without the hassle of filling out customs paperwork and applying for refunds. I spent a lot of time shopping for gifts in London, when I should have just waited until I got to the airport - with many of the same stores operating there. From buying a scarf for my mom, a wallet for my uncle, or even Harrod’s toffees, it was easier to get them at LHR.

That was fun, and quite informative. I can second your endorsement of Jet Blue. They're quite good. The aircraft are well kept, and the crew have always been quite friendly in my experience, and they make time for everyone to relax or sleep. Unlike your experience with United, I like their transatlantic flights, especially on the 787s. I think they are a superior aircraft for long flights - they're quiet, well designed, have large windows, and load quickly due to their size. The pressurization is also better on the 787. You just don't get nausea.

From my experience, you should never have to pay more than 8 dollars to get to any city airport, anywhere in the world. The simple thing always to ask yourself is - "how to the local "bell-hops or baristas" get to the airport every day for work? A good tip is to ask one. If you're in a non-English speaking country, more often than not, you will need to be able to read the local language to get this kind of local info. so always do your homework before you leave from home.

I quite like the concept of ordering your food on the touchscreen on the plane. Have never had that on any long haul flights I've been on. That aside it looked a bit cramped to me . I'm used to the 3-4-3 seat configuration where there's a bit more space (and the plane is a bit bigger) but a 3-3 I thought would only be good enough for short haul, not an 8 hour transatlantic flight.

Jet Blue was ONCE upon a time, the absolute best airling to fly in the United States. Although they were never the cheapest, they were the best value, never a canceled flight, rarely late, SUPERIOR customer service and if by some rare chance they were running late due to their own fault, you would be handsomely compensated. Jet Blue serviced many of the smaller regional airports (Long Beach, Ontario, O.C. John Wayne, etc). In fact, it was the passengers from these regions that made Jet Blue popular. Over the years, Jet Blue became to big for their britches, completely forgetting about who it was that made them succesful. Jet Blue abandoned their customers at the regionals and opted to service bigger airports. They no longer service Long Beach and Ontario, but of course now service LAX. Who wants to go there unless you absolutely have to. So now they have service to London from JFK. Just as Jet Blue abandoned their faithful customers, we now have abandoned Jet Blue. Although the number has greatly dwindled, those that I know that still fly Jet Blue have nothing good to say about their service. In fact, just the opposite.

Fun tip for NYC Subway and Airtrain riders: If you’d like to buy a MetroCard with a non-US credit card, you should be able to enter 00000 or 99999 as your zip code and it will work. (Source: confirmed by several friends and blogs.)

That used to work and sometimes still does on older machines. For newer machines and online payments, you work out your "zip" code by taking your UK post code, removing all the letters from it then padding it out with zeroes. Therefore, for example, JL3 0XB becomes "30" then you add the zeroes to get "30000", worked for me in instances when "99999" was rejected. I was really surprised that it was as simple as that because it is by no means obvious.
