I would 👍👍👍 for his speed because l can catch every word and makes good dictation, 😂 for english intermediate learners! If l still have my class, l highly recommend your vlog to learn some humourous idioms ," landslide in my pants"🤣. Listening skills. Steve speaks fast and clear. Won't be boring listening to him n lvana. If it's slow ... l think l will fall asleep. If it's too slow l can finish up the sentence or guess what's the next word/phrase. Good job Steve lvana! I have been following your trip in sabah. Very interesting.. But have you heard of the saying" only mad dogs and English men wslk in the noonday sun.. Ha ha. Gaya Street is best early or mid morning. As for the pows, the rice pastry is steamed.. And so very soft compared to actual wheat bread, also its gluten free as its made from rice. Enjoy
@JetLagWarriors2 жыл бұрын
Lol I've never heard that saying but it's funny :)
@daviddelaharpe64742 жыл бұрын
As for kuih cincin, its also from rice flour if i am not mistaken. And they use sugar from thr bud of the Nipah palm flower, so the sugar is not as sweet as refined cane sugar. We also have gula melaka which is made from a sugar palm and sometimes from the coconut flower bud too. Common all over south east asia and india.

10:15 these are flavoured flour puff ball, a type of snack popular in sabah. it is tasty, in my personal opinion la... worth a try. i would go for the plain one, which is the pale one on the right. 11:35 kudos to malaysian, for not being shy... 😁 12:18 😁 that's ambuyat (sabah & brunei) or linut (sarawak).. it does looks unappertizing and tasteless if eaten plain. but if you eat it with mango sambal, it is super sedap... in the old days, rice is not as common in rural area, the sago trees are everywhere along the river. so, it became one of the main source of carbo for rural ppl living along the river... at least that's what i learnt from my parents and relatives.. 😁 when i was a child, i love watching how my mom pour hot water in and it slowly turns gluey. mom told us there are some taboos (which i cant recall what they are anymore), be "sincere" and in total concentration when preparing linut, else it wont turn gluey and all will go waste. steve, i am surprised you liked it!!!! my husband decided to not try it anymore after the 1st try... 🤣
@chaw2942 жыл бұрын
Wee Fang, is ambuyat similar to those sago kuih which are sweet and coated with young grated coconut?
@weeeee82322 жыл бұрын
@@chaw294 no. ambuyat/linut is actually cooked sago powder/flour. i think they sell it in either dry powder form or wet/soaked form. it must be wet, and your slowly pour hot water into it and it will slowly turn gluey, and you must stop at a certain consistency....you try google/youtube ambuyat/linut, and you will see how they prepare it... it is fun to watch the process.

20:00 😁 all i can say is : NOT ALL LOCAL eat the sago worm... even my late father who eats almost everything, CANT eat sago worm... give it a try ONLY if you really wanna challenge yourself, but no obligation, no obligation at all!!! there are salai version though, those are more bearable... 😁 45:35 kudos to En. Hanafi... errr.. can send a pack of kuih cicin to me too? 😁 steve & ivana, buy a pack of fish Amplang... you will like it.

Sabah is known for its pearls. Just go to Filipino Market and if you see something you like, do haggle. I tend to buy pearl brooches as gifts from there (preferably without the big bling2 stones). Try to haggle 50% off as your minimum. Always ask which one is the cheapest and natural cultured pearl. Otherwise just ask what you can get for the lowest price range, RM20 or RM30 and move up from there. You can get some pearls for Abang Ajeeb. It's a nice gift.
@JetLagWarriors2 жыл бұрын
I think we will go back to the Philippine market (a few days ago just went there to eat!), but this time we will go for more pearls. It's a good Idea :). Thanks Izou

Do try similar kind of snacks e.g. kuih cuan, kuih sarang semut & kuih sepit once you reach Sarawak 😄
@izounokuda54612 жыл бұрын
@@danadeejay7763 Sarawak must try the many different kek lapis with pure butter types (not the planta ones). Expensive but sedap and definitely uniquely Sarawak. Kuih cuan in Sabah is the Kuih Ros I think it was the third packet given by Hanafi which JLW didn't open up on camera. We have kuih sarang semut too typically triangle in shape. Sabah has oilier kuih called Panyaram/Penyaram/Penjaram/Panjaram..flour and coconut sugar too. For the kuih cincin, fresh ones are softer in texture, but there are those that can break the teeth too LOL so have to look for fresh ones. Recent years Amplang in Sabah is kinda famous..basically fish crackers but shaoed into small fish balls. There's also cuttlefish and prawn types not just fish. People tend to buy as souvenirs for sharing especially with office colleagues.

That older part of KK, built largely on reclaimed land, is so small that you can't possibly miss Gaya Street just by walking around a small bit. Where you saw KFC was once in the sea, before the reclamation, if I'm not wrong. I think that part is called Segama. Was it near the Hyatt?
