I loved how Uni Kuru Toga has revolutionized and evolve the mechanical pencil as a whole by offering different models. Some of overengineered with a purpose. But there is something for everyone. Ever since Uni Kuru Toga sold its first mechanical pencil back in 2008. I bought 1 from Maido or somewhere that was available in the US. I use it for exams, and solving problems in math, and when I was going back to school in college especially Accounting and Finance. I just loved it. Then I upgraded to the Uni Alpha Switch and have the Advance at work. These are just awesome pencils. Thank you Jetpens for highlighting Uni's kuru toga.

some of y'all in the comments are annoying me, so here's a story about why this mechanism is cool and important. I am neurodivergent. one of my physical symptoms is that I grip my writing tools too tightly and press too hard. (this is why you will see very thick crayons marketed at nd teens+adults, a lot of us have trouble regulating pressure and grip.) I was undiagnosed until 4 years ago, meaning I spent my school years with horrific handwriting, using a pencil with lead that was too thick because at least it didn't break every five letters, having meltdowns when I tried to study because I literally couldn't read my own notes. It is beyond humiliating to realize at 16 years old that *you never learned how to use a pencil correctly.* would this pencil have made me a straight-A student? of course not. would it have been an accessibility aid for me, and thus made school less traumatizing? absolutely. is it also kinda silly for people with excellent motor control to worry so much about Aesthetics that they buy pencils with innovative tech built in for always-precise lines? Yes. anyway, I hope to try one of these some day. ❤️

I also didn't like how wiggly the lead was which I think contributed to the poor handwriting. I went back to my Pilot Color Eno which have absolutely nothing special, but have lasted years. It's designed in Japan for writing Japanese characters. If you ever try to write a language like Japanese, on a small scale, you'll instantly understand the value of a constantly sharp point. As their characters have many times more little strokes in the same space that English has but a few. A blunt lead can lead to illegibility. For English script and similar, it's not as pertinent; it becomes a matter of preference and appreciation for small details. For artists and drafters who draw long strokes, they'll see little to no benefit. For artists who draw lots of little strokes, they'll appreciate consistent line width. This is because the mechanism only turns when you lift the tip off the page. I also just remembered that some mathematicians appreciate it too.
@Tryllvor3 ай бұрын
i guess it depends on if you prefer fine tips or not. i write small and i love the consistently crisp line the kuru toga makes. i also do carpentry and hugely appreciate how precise i can mark up cuts without ever having to sharpen or finding the right angle of the lead to use. the mechanics of this pencil is like having a little assistant.
