@@TheHeadinchargeOkay, that's fair, but are we gonna pretend teams still don't get screwed when referees have a discussion or review a play? Some of these refs need to be investigated when they miss blatant, game-changing calls either directly in front of them or under review with a clear picture. I'm convinced some of these refs have to be gambling on games.
@jamie_youtube_

@@TheHeadincharge The NFL also has access to that overhead view. These kinds of critical calls need to be reviewable by officials who have access to the angles and information that can't be seen on the ground. Add a few members into the regular officiating crew who are in a booth actively looking over these things in real time. The NFL can afford it, and it doesn't have to slow down the pace of play. This is especially important for these nationally televised games, it's a bad look for the league whether it's the holding call or the facemask safety.

My issue with that call is that Sauce was playing like that all game. If is was an issue, call it in the 1st or 2nd or 3rd quarter and send a message. No, that’s 100% a safety you can have your hand on a guys facemask you can stiff arm a guy you can have your hand all over the face, but the second you close your hand around the face mask bars and twist someone’s head (a very dangerous play) the foul starts, and the foul occurred in the end zone. I thought it was perfectly called. Edit: Now if the call had been illegal hands to the face you got a case for it occurring outside the end zone. But if you call face mask, a facemask penalty is the grabbing and pulling

The Chiefs DBs were holding Garrett Wilson all game if that last play was a hold. The fact that the ref was going to let the WR and DB fight it out, and then realized that it was an INT and only then threw the holding does make this look shady to me. For all we know, Jets may have lost the game regardless, but can't be having the refs decide games on such nonsense calls at the end of games. The safety call is unimportant since Jets get lot better field position if Chiefs have to punt from the 1 yard line and the Jets probably score a FG, or block a punt to score a TD. If anything, I say that is 1 less point at least for the Jets. As for the horse collar tackle, even if you take the TD away, there is still a good chance the Jets get to FG position to score a 3. Also, if the Jets are down by more, they are not kicking a FG on 4th and 1, and punting on those 4th downs in the middle of the field during the 3rd and 4th quarter. It changes the playcalling all together, so we can't be sure of the impact of the horse collar call. However, the non-holding call for the Mahomes 25 yard run, and then the holding call on Sauce on an INT clearly didn't allow Jets to have any chance or time to come back. That is why bad 4th quarter officiating impacts games lot more than bad calls in the 1st or 2nd quarter.

As someone who follows NFL and soccer, it genuinely baffles me that NFL officials aren't full time professionals. It's a multi billion dollar sport and you have part timers in charge of one of the most important aspects of the game.
@NotMyActualName_
@NotMyActualName_ 9 ай бұрын
It's really dumb. But the reason is because NFL officials are often from pretty high paying careers. Most of the head officials are lawyers. Clete Blakeman, for example, has a big law practice and has said he would have to leave the NFL if they required him to go full time because he makes more off the field than he would if they made him go full time, even if they doubled his salary. And that's just a head official, who make pretty decent money already. Line judges and back judges and all the lesser spots on the crew...those guys don't make tha tmuch and most of them make way more outside of football. Now, could the NFL make this work? yes of course. You don't need to be a 5m/yr lawyer to be a good head referee. Many good officials are not lawyers. But it would create some turmoil in the short term as they'd have a very sudden bout of turnover, even if they phased it in over time.
@johnraitken
@johnraitken 9 ай бұрын
@@NotMyActualName_ I'd take a full time professional over a part time 'smart' lawyer to do a better job any day of the week. Get why some wouldn't go, but I'm sure there are plenty of candidates who would jump at the opportunity to be full time professionals and do an amazing job of it. Soccer went through same thing years back, the standards def improved afterwards.
@NotMyActualName_
@NotMyActualName_ 9 ай бұрын
@@johnraitken yeah I agree it's not like you need to be a lawyer to do the job. But also keep in mind they're unionized and have a contract. The refs are the ones who don't want to go full time. If the NFL wants full time refs they have to either completely replace the entire officiating system in one off season at the end of the contract or convince the ref union to go full time. And if the refs think the NFL will do that they'll go on strike immediately.

Bills fan here, to Jets fans; I watched last night and starting in the second quarter, I felt the Jets played a good game. Much like the game you played against us in the season opener. Get after the passer with great defense and take advantage of mistakes that could cause. Two things didn't happen last night, you didn't get 4 turnovers from the chiefs and there was no fantastic punt return to give a walk off victory. Like I said then and say now; Well played but you are still the same team as the day before and still need a new QB. I will say this about the Gardner penalty. Every team breaks down film of the opposition especially their top players. KC obviously saw how Gardener would play coverage in a tight situation, discussed it with Mahomes and then when #15 saw his receiver start to get mauled he let the ball fly forcing the flag. I wouldn't be surprised if KC didn't have their coaches talking up the refs about such kind of coverage before the series even started. You may not like it but that was smart football by Reid and Mahomes. Robert Saleh should spend more time in the film room like Andy and then he won't have to fly off the handle and get himself penalized in the future. One thing is proven. You are just a QB away from being a terror, but I don't think that the answer is currently in your locker room or rehab facility.

The ref held the flag to wait and see. If there was no pick, and an incomplete pass, he would not throw the flag, because then that would let Sauce know he was tightening up his calls (which were lenient all night). So he waited until the pick to lower the boom. That’s why they call it a “confidence” game. Build up the player’s confidence that the refs are letting everyone play, until KABOOM.

A hold is a hold, yep. But touching an offensive player is not. That was not a hold. The ref doesn't throw the flag until a full three seconds after the "hold" which is a loooong time in real time. The ref watches the ball get intercepted and only then throws the flag. Garbage officiating. Your argument makes zero sense. If he holds on every play (which he obviously doesn't), you're defending a ref who chooses when to throw a flag for it, and chooses the game changing moment??

No player shall grab the inside collar of the back or the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, or grab the jersey at the name plate or above, and pull the runner toward the ground. This does not apply to a runner who is in the tackle box or to a quarterback who is in the pocket. the rule says to the back or side and there is no name plate on the front.

You can call holding on at least one offensive lineman, on every teams, on most plays. But when you see holding primarily called against just a handful of teams, and only on key 3rd downs where they were able to get a first down or other big play, it makes you scratch your head. "why call it then, when you don't call it on first downs, or when they get stuffed". Why only call holding late, and only after a 3rd down conversation?
