Right now, this is just a novelty for the rich, with 20 minute flight time, high cost, low availability. Once production increases substantially, the battery gets a lot better and the price comes down, then it'll be worth talking about...

I ordered one last year and hope it comes soon. Its a bit scary, but I have always dreamt of flying and this is as close as I’m likely to get. The idea of buzzing over the trees to visit my daughter 4 miles away is mind-boggling. It will turn a 15 minute drive into a 5 minute flight, and be FUN. Its clearly only for clear, calm days. Great toy!

Remember what goes up will come down. Built and sold Ultralights and the ballistic parachutes needed 100 feet above ground level to work. I love flying and would love to fly one of these, but have made a promise to never fly any thing with out a descent glide rate or auto rotation like a helo.

@@gilbertoros4703 At some point, you need to take unreasonable risks if you want to enjoy unreasonable fun. I have been impressed with Jetson’s focus on safety, and understand that the real danger zone is from 20-100 feet. Of course, it’s at 100 feet that the height becomes deeply terrifying if you focus on it. One of my main concerns is birds - the unprotected rotors seem vulnerable to strikes. I wonder if protective cages are a possibility. I am satisfied with the reliability of electric motors at this point. The drone industry has been perfecting these for over a decade.

An honest review, the good & the bad. Well done and thank you! 20 kilometers? That'll get reduced as the battery's lifespan gets reduced. I think 20 is probably very optimistic. They said the old Beech 18 aircraft would cruise at 180 mph. I never saw 180 and I owned 5 of them. C-45 to G model. It might do 180 with both engines near wide open and the nose at a 45 degree down angle. With all the lard asses we have in the U.S., they're going to have to increase that payload to 400 pounds minimum and a larger cage the size of a prison cell. Good luck.

I need to react to the negative comments. 1. Quadcopters for personal transport is as likely as landing rocket boosters, i.e. it is already a fact. 2. Battery technology is among the fastest developing technologies and typically doubling energy density per 5 years. So if you are not impressed with the range, then just wait a few years. Think about the difference between GM EV1 and a Tesla Model Y. 3. Fossil Fuel will be phased out, regardless of your personal preferences, it is just not sustainable. Just like with smoking, the industry will fight back with propaganda and misleading statements, but in the end they are doomed. A likely strategy, as with tobacco, is a focus shifting to developing countries as developed countries ban fossil fuel. 4. Battery powered aircrafts are already commercial and the business case is expanding as the tech develops, from short haul few passenger crafts to longer haul more passengers planes. The tech will likely not ever replace long haul intercontinental flight jets, but probably 50-70% of todays passenger miles will become electric. 5. Open rotors is of course not a problem, that is how all propeller planes and helicopters operate.

You don't need a license to fly an ultralight in the USA. Ultralight Aircraft is a class of aircraft classified by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) which regulates aircraft, operators, mechanics, the airspace and everything to do with flying. Since its under the 254 lbs. empty weight limit, it will qualify as an ultralight aircraft in the US, and you won't have to worry about the maximum 5 US Gallons limit with the electric motor. The only issue here is the speed. The Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) that pertains to the top speed limitation for ultralight aircraft is found in Part 103 - Ultralight Vehicles. Specifically, §103.1(b) outlines the maximum speed limitations for ultralights in the United States. According to this regulation, ultralight vehicles are limited to a maximum level flight speed of 55 knots (approximately 63 mph or 102 km/h).

@@lurch789 That's true. I never considered the number of rotary motors. Tandem rotor helicopter aircraft have been around for a long time, and this is just the next version of that. So, as to the technicality of calling it an aircraft, I want to understand where your perspective is from. I'm guessing you're an oldschool pilot. A lot of you think that paramotoring, paragliding, powered hang-gliding trikes, and other similar open-cockpit designed ultralight aircraft are somehow unsafe. I think that risk tolerance comes down to your perspective. I'm a veteran, and I've jumped from planes. I trust a reserve chute to do it's job, and that doesn't take a lot of sense to figure out how to use it. So, from my perspective it seems silly to call it a death trap, like a lot of people do. It's more safe than driving down the interstate in my state tbh.

From what I can tell, the pilot is on-board the Jetson One, so by definition it is a Manned Aircraft, NOT a DRONE which, by definition, is Unmanned. When did manned aircraft become drones?? Just because it is controlled with an RC transmitter doesn't mean it is a drone. If person controlling the craft, the Pilot, is on-board, it is a manned aircraft. Also, being a multi-rotor craft doesn't qualify it as a drone either.

10 hours flying time - flying at 100-200meters high and bigger place in the cockpit. + 50-100 years still.
@mcnuggatron2129
@mcnuggatron2129 Жыл бұрын
the 100-200 meters is easy, we can already do that. A bigger cockpit is also easy, can do already do that as well. The only thing we can't easily do is give an electric quadcopter 10 hours flight time.. but we don't need to. We certainly need more than 20 minutes, but a flight time of something like 3 or 4 hours would be adequate for most utilitarian purposes. To get those few hours with current technology is difficult, but it's actually probably possible. You would probably need to basically turn into an airplane once you've taken off, like an osprey, and you'd need to use some sort of combustion engine rather than electric motors. Point is, we aren't 100 years away from useful manned quadcopters, we're there now. Just need a market for it and a lot of money for development. As far as electric version are concerned, solid state batteries will likely be the final push necessary to make all manner of electric aircraft fully feasible, and solid state batteries are slated to enter mainstream production primarily from the big car manufacturers within the next 5 years or so

@@lurch789 I think that is literally the whole point. A personal flying device that is akin to a vespa scooter of the air. It doesn't require any knowledge of aviation. You just throttle up and point it where you want to go. Akin to learning to ride a bike. There's no rudder, there's no wings, there's no stall, aerodynamically that is. Only thing that should go wrong is engine failure or idiot crashing into something.

$90,000 , max. driver weight of 210lbs, only goes 20 miles on a charge. Yeah great selling points. I couldn't get to my job with that flight range.

20 MINUTES in a charge, not miles. At a max speed of 55-60 MPH the range is better (one way) than 20 miles.

@stanlee2589 Early days. And it's not a bad thing (or unreasonable) to have people weigh less than 210lbs. And 63mph for 20 minutes will give you about 20 miles. Not terrible, but no doubt in 10 years time it'll be improved. Just look how much further electric cars can go on a single charge compared with yesterday.

@@stanlee2589 Ha! Being able to fly 20 miles is something like this isn't terrible. Unless your glass is half full. Again, it's early days. Look at EV's. The increase in distance range between now and only a few years ago has increased vastly.
