Jetson ONE - Range and Endurance Flight Test - How Far Can You Fly?

What is the Jetson ONE flight time? What is the range?
These are the two most asked questions we get.
Earlier this spring we performed a series of endurance tests of the Jetson ONE. Flight was done out of ground effect at 730ft Mean Sea Level.
With a best cruise speed of 60km/h (37mph) we covered a total distance of 17.74km (11.02 miles).
The flight test was performed at Foligno regional airport (LIAF).
Jetson is on a mission to define the future of air mobility and transportation.
Please share and subscribe. With your support the future of personal aviation begins now!

Can you publish some basic data? Charge when you started? 100%? Charge state when you ended? 20%? Does it have an auto feature to land or warn of battery depletion? How high can it far or does it always fly in ground effect? How many engines can fail and still stay in the air? How many engines can fail on the same side and still fly? What was the distance of one lap? How many KM or miles do you estimate it flew? Have you considered a ballistic parachute recovery system or is that too much weight? Can you charge it at a TESLA Charger? Does it have a feature where the pilot can push a button and it will do a RTB and hover? Do you have weight and balance numbers; MTOW, useful load, empty weight, max weight of pilot? Where is all the data for the Jetson. I have a ton of questions I guess.

Its amazing, will absolutely revolutionize personal transportation, we simply need 2 things: 1. Decrease in the unit cost, which I believe will happen over time, as more units are sold. 2. Revolution in portable energy storage, so that this thing can fly for an hour or 2 continuously. The way I see it is that it's a toy for now, once we make a breakthrough it will become a serious mean of personal transportation.

I genuinely find even these pretty and fun inventions we make to be a step towards a dystopian future, but I have to say, that the scifi nerd in me LOVES it. @darknes7800
@darknes7800 5 минут бұрын
It can travel about 1 mile per minute, top speed. If this test was run at top speed, it means the thing has about 18 miles of range....assuming you have recharge capabilities at your landing site. Or 7 miles of range, before having to return to the hanger for a recharge. J1 will never be part of minor or mass transportation, due to its limited range based on its limited ability to carry its own batter pack. The entire EV market is in decline due to those limitations and the publics desire for quick and efficient refueling (ie ICE vehicles). Bottom line, its a toy.

@@rbarlow it's not in ground effect. Ground effect ends at twice the diameter of a rotor blade. These rotor blades are about 3-4 feet in diameter and they're mounted 3-4 feet off the ground so it's barely in ground effect at a hover. Ground effect also disappears as you increase speed and you get ETL which is what gives you the most performance increase. Performance above 16-24 knots will be equal 5 feet off the ground vs 100 feet off the ground. This is not impressive, it's a novelty dangerous hover craft

@@620ironwolf ground effect has nothing to do with feet above the ground... It's relative to the diameter of the rotor disk. The diameter of these rotor blades make it so it barely has ground effect at a 3 foot hover, if at all. ETL is what will increase the performance which is not effected by altitude and has to do with velocity. Ground effect, even in a machine and height above the ground capable of taking advantage of it disappears as you gain forward airspeed. Ground effect is also greatly decreased over grass or water or any soft moveable surface like sand.

Everyone, to put this in perspective, the FAA regulates that an airplane is legally considered to have zero fuel when it has 30 minutes left of fuel and a helicopter 20 min left of fuel. So if this were considered a real aircraft, it wouldn't even be considered safe or legal to pick it up off the ground. This thing can only hover for 10-15 min once every 10+ hours with a level 2 charger. You should be applauding the effort and encouraging advancement of the tech, not approving it's current performance. this novelty item needs to be 5x more efficient to start to be considered a useful flying machine.

I couldn't agree more. I can believe none of these guys seems to have any interest in creating some kind of APU that would allow the thing to run for 100's of miles and would only require a tank to fill with JetA or Avgas. I'll never understand the EV sycophant's desire to produce vehicles that are basically next to useless outside the novelty of flying it for 10 minutes after waiting 10 hours to recharge it. It's just not useful with such a limited range.

The company always says that the Jetson One is for fun not for Urban transportation. It is for fun like a Jet-Ski for Sky. They have been very clear about from day one. From beginning they also say this is suppose to have a maximun of 20min of fly time. Their scope has been well define. so please stop this blah blah blah. so negive mindset.

It was never intended to be a "useful flying machine" in a way that FAA will approve it the same way it approves planes and helis. This is a whole different category, you're missing the point.

If there was a 1.5m long and 30cm wide wing on the iron cage above the pilot, it would both protect the plot from bird strikes and be useful for lifting loads.

@jetson very good first look at this video I did not see any cuts, will put it through the analyzer next, so basically 11 miles range if flying low 15-25 feet off the ground? what is your peak altitude range? has that been tested yet? Very nice 👍.

I want one. One thing i would say is while flying low seems fast..... its also the most dangerous way. if something happens you have less than a second before you hit the ground at speed. if you climb to 300+ meters and install a whole craft parachute. it would be far safer. I fly paramotor and the danger zone is anything less than about 150 meters. you simply dont have time to react and for a cute to slow you down.

Ok, while this is cool, this is a false distance test flight. The craft was in ground effect pretty much the entire time which greatly reduces the power consumption to stay aloft. If you were fly higher than ground effect, which you almost for certain would while traveling somewhere, you can pretty much reduce the flight time and distance by about half.

Neat - but with this sort of range and space capacity, what are the practical applications here over a regular unmanned drone? It's great to see this operating smoothly in what appears to be absolutely perfect conditions - but what about every other more realistic scenario?

So.. if people should one day get into these machines and trust them to not fall out of the sky, wouldn't it be a good idea to provide some useful data if you already decide to take the testing footage to KZbin? I think that someone who buys this is not only going to be a user of a big toy but also a pilot and likely an enthousiast with an interest for everything that is going on with the machine. Providing data or even showing the dashboard would do two things: Raising interest and credibility in the machines capabilities and also building trust by giving the viewer the feeling of dealing with an honest company instead of one that has to hide something. Showing us that it can go 11 miles in level flight is a good thing in its own right, but you could also state that the usable flight time as a fun machine which it seems to be marketed as is a third of these 18 minutes and thirty seconds on a good day. Don't get me wrong because I would love it if you are successful with this project but watching your videos gets me this tingle of why I can't see some actual live machine data every time. Stating limitations of your product and why they are there is easily the best way to gain trust of a lot of potential buyers and also avoiding mis-use and accidents when the first rich kid tries to go 15 miles to the nearest mountain top and losing it half way up. Enough rambling, do what you want with this.
