Years back, as an RN, I cared for a terminally ill girl. Delightful person she was. She gave this song to me. I'm SO touched everytime I listen. Will be til I die.

I first heard Jewel when she was playing a coffee shop tour in Portland, OR in 1995. The irony is that she had a lot of fear when she had this song back then. She was still living out of her car and wasn't sure if she had a future in music. She only had her acoustic guitar, but to played to much smaller crowds than this. She would play the same local coffee shop each week in Portland and show up in jeans and t-shirt without make up or any glam. She just unloaded all of her songs on us with her acoustic guitar alone for about 2 hours each night. Without the glam or big musical arrangements to distract, the emphasis was on the quality of her songwriting . I couldn't believe what I was hearing. There were a lot of outstanding songs in those shows that were never released for years or ever. Each week she would tell us how her career was making progress. I remember the night she told us that she was booked to play the Conan O'Brien show for the first time. There were only a few of us in that coffee shop, but we all erupted with a standing ovation for her on that announcement. She stopped being afraid and kept going forward ever since. Your girl lives on for me in this song and Jewel's success.
