I had no idea, I have been housebound to Agoraphobia since 2005, I havnt heard of many people who suffer from it.

Honor you’re still housebound as of today since 2005? I’ve been the same way but since last year

@@kriss051879 I still have issues getting out but if you can maybe try getting on a benzodiazepine for a short while (I'm on 2mg of clonazepam currently), in the least I'm able to get out but it's still seems dreadful often times. But honestly, you just have to learn not to care and gradually expose yourself everyday. Step outside one day = success, next day see if you can go a little further and further. There will be days where you will regress or be too terrified but don't let it discourage you. Everyday is a new day and make it about finding some sort of occupation as well (outside of home, even if in your backyard) and you'll feel better over time. Dr. Claire Weekes has a nice book called "Hope and help for your nerves" and there's other ones like "DARE" by Barry McDongah. I hope you feel better even slightly :)

@@salligriffin2847 Same here. I've had anxiety and depression that comes along with it since my teens. I have had bouts of agoraphobia throughout the last two decades, with the longest spell being about ten months. First time I got out was to go to the ER. I did 3 months in a psychiatric clinic and that helped a bit. But it's still a daily struggle. How are you doing now?

It most definitely is about fear! Agoraphobia is the fear of a panic attack. A panic attack is caused by fear!

Kim Basinger talks about her agoraphobia here on the tube also and how she was eventually healed ... ... exposure therapy so for example maybe one day you force yourself to step outside the door and maybe the day after that take three steps further out and maybe on the third day maybe go further out and you have to just keep doing that and then maybe step inside the supermarket but if you can't make yourself go all the way then maybe come back next time and at least go a little bit further in the store .

Why do so many people and psychologists confuse the genetic disorder agoraphobia with a psychological anxiety disorder. Just because a person can’t leave the house or car , it doesn’t immediately transform to agoraphobia. Agoraphobia is misapply named. It is not a phobia. It is a genetic disorder And only the Claire weekes method can control it. This woman obviously has a psychological anxiety disorder from a traumatised childhood. She needs an accurate diagnosis. And the word agoraphobia came from the Ancient Greek language by people seeing a person having a panic attack in open places. The Ancient Greeks had no real knowledge of genetic or psychological disorders as we know today. The word agoria means market or shop. The word “fovia “ means fear. That is the exact Greek translation. And now everyone uses the word phobia wrongly even for some genetic disorders
