We were blessed with really calm seas on our sailing, but weather is so unpredictable. You will always feel more motion forward and aft and the higher up your cabin is located. Mid-ship is definitely best if you are concerned about motion. I tend to look at the route and choose port or starboard based upon on how much sun will be coming in on my balcony during sailing, as I like afternoon shade in hot locations or the opposite in cold locations.

Hi, thanks for the video. Did u find the seas rough at all being near the front? Any thought on being starboard or port side? Thanks!!

Sorry to be so long in replying. Somehow I missed your comment earlier - Regardless of the ship, I can always feel more motion the farther forward or farther aft you go. In the forward, the wind feels stronger on the balcony, and in the aft I can usually feel more of the engine vibrations and the thrusters when coming into port. As far as starboard or aft, it is a toss-up. I LOVE to be on the side that faces the dock, but the captain is just as likely to back in as he is to pull in forward, so it is hard to know. And in some ports there are multiple docks/ On this Norway itinerary, we tended to dock most often on the port side which made me really happy as our cabin was port. What I like about being forward of the forward elevators, is that the only people walking by my cabin in the hallway are just the few people whose rooms are past me. If I am booking in the hot summer months, I look at the direction we are sailing, and pick the side of the cabin that is most likely to get the morning sun, so that the hot, afternoon sun is on the opposite side and my cabin will have shade to keep it cooler. I sometimes use the opposite thought in cold climates, where I would like my balcony to have the sun on it for a longer period of the day.
