Hi pj i want to know if i won’t have problem when i want to print with this surface . I knew that all i did in rhino had to be closed polisurface .. Can you explain me this ?
@PJChenJewelryDesign2 жыл бұрын
You can always extrude surface to make it solid or make a same size box and boolean split and remove the part you don’t need

Hi, when I flow the texture along surface, it dosn´t look like my stone texture at all. Looks completely different. I tried several times with diffeent textures and don´t know how to fix it
@PJChenJewelryDesign5 жыл бұрын
Hi E. when you flow. make sure the texture was from Create UV curve. it usually stretched a little bit depends on how tight or loose the original surface was but it should be close. another way is to make the texture smaller or finer before you flow.
@RICHGYPSEA5 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s what I did The texture looks fine on the flat surface, but changes completely on the ring

Hey PJ, I keep getting "Open Polysurface", when i check the Naked edges, it shows that the seam of the texture is pink, I zoom in & the ends match. Can you please explain to me why that is? I have joined the ring and texture after flow. Rhino was able to create a Boolean Union, but not "Closed Polysurface".
@PJChenJewelryDesign4 жыл бұрын
HI Nariman, if you parts can be boolean. try to boolean a small sphere on where it is naked. it may fix the issue. if not, email me your 3dm. I will take a look for you. pj@pjchendesign.com

@@PJChenJewelryDesign ok excellent thank you. Can you tell me if this solution matches your suggestion? I extracted the Isocurve then built a pipe around it to create a thickness where the texture meets. I will try it again today

Hi PJ, I'm unable to ExtractSrf on my ring... I made my ring profile simpler than in your example (typical wedding bad look)- I did a rectangle with a slightly curved top. Any ideas why I'm not able to ExtractSrf? Thanks!
@PJChenJewelryDesign6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, you can email me your model to pj@pjchendesign.com, I will take a look for you.
@jon92076 жыл бұрын
Thanks!- I just sent
@PJChenJewelryDesign6 жыл бұрын
The reason you can not extractSrf is that the entire ring is ONE/SINGLE surface. so there is nothing to extract from. the solution is to draw two straight line and split the surface instead. I send you a revision model by email. Let me know if that make sense.
@jon92076 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advise! I did the split command with two lines, and I placed them to not include the radius. Then, I did a UnrollSrf command. It worked like a charm! (no pun intended)

Hi P. J, when I follow the steps , use the transform , flow along the surface: I can choose the " subject ", but when I click the " base surface", it didn't work... if I continue to click " target surface".. , then what I got is the Copy of the " subject surface". so, I feel , the problem is " base surface " was not able to be selected, and I don't know why?

make sure 1. surface are complete intersect. 2 surface is not folding into itself. 3 you trim all the surfaces.

For benefit of everyone.......Question : I am getting some weired ring on the surface of the ring instead of texture when flowed over target surface. what could be reason ? Answer : Missed to convert the base curve to planer surface and hence the problem. Select the planer UV curve and convert it to surface by using Surface from planer curve tool. If not done, Rhino will consider the base curve as surface and create the weired looking rings on target surface instead of textures......

nice creative tutorial again. would it work to not mirror the texture but leave a gap and do two *SurfaceBlend* or MatchSurface commands? (one for middle seam and one for the tile loop). Or do a proper tiling using offset commands in ie. photoshop first.
@PJChenJewelryDesign6 жыл бұрын
Great idea, it is very possible. it also depend on how complicate the surface was when you blend.
@constantinosschinas45036 жыл бұрын
PJ Chen Design true, match surface would be maybe even better, if possible with certain edges.
@constantinosschinas45036 жыл бұрын
PJ Chen Design just made a test with your texture and procedure, tilling results are excellent, here are the steps: 1. create surface from image 2. stretch it etc to fit the eye. 3. duplicate surface and snap it to the right (the tiling direction) 4. match left surface's right edge to the new one, tangent, do not average surfaces, delete dublicated surface. now the original, matched surface is tilable to the x axis. 5. revolved a surface 6. selected circular edge, measured with length command, measured hight of revolve. 7. created plane with the above dimensions. 8. stretched/fit/tiled the original surface as i needed (many tiles, fewer etc) and made the group totally snap to the length of the planar surface (or even height if needed) 9. flowed the group onto the revolve as in your tutorial, no UV curves needed because it was a simple cylinder. 10. Result is 100% tangent seam, examined with zebra. 11. Can be joined and auto-capped to a closed polysurface. 12. Booleans work correctly with spheres and cubes, even fillets the wavy edges, so works definetely correct and watertight. *edit* *13* . 2 trimmed (from the original wavy surface) round caps were added and were succesfully tangent blended and joined into closed polysurface with Blend Surface. Match Surface would not work due to trimmed edges. I usually don't model such stuff but your tutorial was a nice inspiration, thank again for sharing. keep on the good work.
