omg thankyou so much for this video. you have saved me from a month or so of anxiety. i just started making jewelry and i wanted to take pics to sell but i have yet to do so. i have no idea how to take photos so i have been scouring online to find videos to help. i havent found anything so i have be stressed to take pics.most videos have been so technical,using expensive cameras or confusing apps. i came across your videos and you have made it so simple and easy. i have so many props at home already i never thought of using. thankyou thankyou thankyou for making my day and taking pics so much easier.

Honestly, these few things will tremendously improve your photos - 1. Good light (but not direct and not in the sun); 2. lense that allow bokeh effect (blurred background, some smart phones even have this option now); 3. focus on the product and limit other elements in the frame; 4. Try to use tripod or phone/camera holder to limit shaking; 5. Be creative! Experiment and don't stress too much! I sometimes go through my old photos when I first started and I remember being very hard on myself. I've realised that these photos were great! I was unnecessarily overly critical of my photos, while they were perfectly fine :)

I love you so much!! I’ve learned so much from you. Your jewelry is exquisite!! I even want to talk to you privately. But I think people need to be careful using props with their jewelry. Too much clutter (which is what props can look like if not skilled), or the wrong props or amount or amount of props is a distraction. I don’t think everybody has the same skill level as far as that is concerned, so if you’re advising props, I think you should warn about that. The old expression, “ less is more” works here. Better to have beautiful lighting, clear crisp pictures, gorgeous positioning, cropping etc etc. instead of taking the time to find and position too many props. Yes I’m a jewelry maker and jewelry buyer. I guess it’s the right props that matters as well like the beautiful scissors. I love bird scissors but does it have to do with selling Jewelry?

Basia, I'm about to embark on my silver jewellery journey (I'm a fused glass artist in Devon, uk) and came across your KZbin channel this week while searching for beginner's tips in silversmithing. I'm starting a level 1 jewellery course in October in Bude Cornwall and wanted to learn some basics beforehand. You are so generous with your ideas and help (alongside being a complete natural in front of the camera!) and wanted to give a small thank you 😊. Take care, Jo Beespoke of Devon

Hiya Lady Stardust, yet another great video. I loved the overload of tools, less is more. Did you see on my comment the other day about using your own body to show off the jewellery to it's best effect, people can more easelly see how it might look on them. Your hand yes but also neck, ears & fingers etc. Yes you may need a photographer to take the final shot, or use a model. I've seen a manaquin head fully made up used with the make up colour changed to match the colour of the jewellery, do that on a live model too. Once you've set the style of your jewellery don't do to radical a change. Don't go from 'Country House' to 'Disco' Stay safe...Steve xx...
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve! Oh no, I haven'r seen your comment! Will have to go find it and check it out :) But yes, I completely agree, that the best way to show off the jewellery is to simply put it on a model! 😃 The problem is, it's so hard to take the photos of yourself 😂 I might need some help with this. Hopefully over the Summer my sister can help me :) Thank you, take care xx
@stephencoster95323 жыл бұрын
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing Hiya, could a certain Polish gentelman of your aquaintance not help you? You set up the shot with the camera focused on him then you step in & he takes the shot or you do by remote. I can't remember how to spell his name, I never can, spelling again...Can you feed the camera via the computer so you can see the shot while setting up & check focus etc? As always stay safe you two...Steve xx...
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing3 жыл бұрын
Jarek 😁 Yes, that's true! But sometimes I need to shoot during the day, when there's light, and he's working, so that's not the best. Will try during the weekend, and I will also experiment with setting up a shot via Bluetooth with the new camera (omg, technology these days 🥺😂). Some days I just don't want to photograph myself though 😁
@stephencoster95323 жыл бұрын
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing experimentation as I recall is the key. They used to say bracket your shots, change the 'f' number & shutter speed, keep the relationship between the two correct for the exposure but turn one up & the other down & shoot. This was in the days when only profesionals had polaroid backs to their cameras & could see the results, we had to wait for the prints to come back from the prossesing house. Now with digital... Look on the largest screen you can to check all is in focus & nothing looks strange. The classic is a tree growing out of someones head. Not likely in this class of work this is close up, but watch out for strange shadoes & reflections. Enough of the lecture Basia, I looked at your shop page the other day, no strange reflections anywhere... But may I say the photos were all the same, a piece of beautiful original jewellery laid on a flat surface with something around it. Sorry but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind... Stay safe...Stave...

Thank you Marty! I think most of the time it's not just being gifted, but the practice and gear. Her being a photographer, she already had years of practice and I'm sure she was using a very good, professional camera too :) So don't be too hard on yourself, it's impossible to be good at everything in life! @stephencoster95323 жыл бұрын
Hiya Karolien, use your body as the model or a friend, as much as you can, photos look best with a human model & get your husband to take the shot of you. Keep the shot as clean, un-cluttered, & simple as possible. Try not to have other jewellery in the frame, even wedding rings, they distract from your work. Try to have the item near the middle of the frame, eyes tend to go there first if there is something light in colour standing out from a darker background. A neckless against a mid to dark coloured high neck top. I could almost write a short book on this I've read so many books plus my work doing lighting in film & TV. Stay safe...Steve...

It might sound funny, cuz I can take professional looking photos, sharp and looking like on jewelry shop websites or catalogs. But it uses plain background, black, white, red, grey, nothing fancy, just focusing on jewelry to stand out. But when it comes to Instagram pictures and using composition with household items, I feel I'm not that creative to come up with any ideas 😂 But in my eyes, people rather buy products that were photographed in natural light, lifestyle props, rather than overly professional looking that may make them feel like it won't look the same when they do buy it, so my sales have been pretty poor.
