very nice video Basia ❤ I love being at home so for me there is no other consideration 😅 the risk with that is that I may become a bit of a hermit 😂I just love being in the little workshop I made in one room, I don’t feel like I am working, at all 😆 so time goes by and suddenly it is night time 🫣😳 so that would be the main risk in my opinion, loving it too much 😆 other than that I love the silence and practicality of being at home. Now that is probably not great for outgoing people or those who need to see more people. As I am not in that group of outgoing personalities I am very happy being alone and floating at home. ❤ Congratulations for your engagement and I wish you all the very best and pure love forever ❤❤❤🎉

I currently do my work from home while being a stay at home mom of two girls. I don’t really pull enough income in to justify getting a separate space (and I absolutely love my little studio) but I do feel like it would be nice to be separated from those other responsibilities. As it is now, I find I get distracted a lot so I’m not really able to concentrate aside from at night. It’s a blessing and a curse of course. I love being home with my children but also need that separation for sense of self. One day I will figure it out. Congratulations on the move back home. Everything looks so beautiful and comfy😊

Thank you so much for your comment! And for watching :) I completely understand you, with family and little children having a separate space would be much more beneficial, less distractions and better focus. I hope that you will find the best solution for yourself, something that will offer you that quiet space. Sending love

I just took a class on silversmithing a couple of weeks ago at a local maker space and while I’m so grateful that it exists for me to utilize and create at, I am already making plans to acquire the things I need to be able to do it from home. (Thanks for those videos!) It’s a 25 minute driving commute and unfortunately spaces are often left dirty and tanks are empty without being mentioned. Being around other creatives is amazing for new ideas and learning from, but I’ll look forward to the time where my tools are as I left them (and where!) and I can just commute across the house to my studio. Goals! 🎉

Oh, true!! This is another option I haven't even mentioned in my video! Thanks so much for adding this perspective - I forgot, since we don't really have it here in Poland for jewelers - that you can work in a co-working space. It offers many advantages, but like you said - it can become annoying, if others aren't keeping the space tidy or refilling the tanks etc. Sharing the actual crafting space with others can be difficult, as nothing is really yours. But it's still great, especially if you can bring some of the tools, or simply try it and decide whether it's for you and you want to invest in tools. Working with other creatives sounds amazing, and that part would definitely be a massive perk! Good luck, I hope you'll have your own space soon! ❤

@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing it’s such a great opportunity for sure! I couldn’t believe there was a space like this locally for me to feel my way through it and slowly begin to put together my own tools. I hope spaces like this pop up more because it’s really so wonderful, especially since it’s not attached to a university!

I have to work outside because of the dangerous gases. It is very inconvenient. It is often windy, sometimes it rains, and now winter is coming and it is cold. You are lucky, you can do your work at home 🙂

For three years I have been slowly creating a studio space in my home. I still work full time in a job unrelated to metalsmithing. This leaves me with little time so this is why it has taken me three years. At the same time I have been taking classes, watching KZbin and developing my skills. I really like having a studio in my home for all the reasons you mentioned. I have a baby gate and a screen that I place across the doorway to my studio so I can keep air flowing between the studio and the rest of the house. I built my own fume extraction system using air quality standards and looking at the filtration of high quality extractors as my guide. I do have a fire extinguisher and a hepa vac for dust collection too.

I've bounced between home & rented. Rented better when i had employees. Also helps make work 'work', versus from home it gets difficult to separate home time from work time. However as a solo builder again I enjoy the more relaxed pace from home.

I've just today got the keys to my new studio!! It's in a large building, lots of potential customers as I can sell when I want from there, have people in and not at my home for any customs, and there's a reception desk to stop just anyone coming in and disturbing my flow. They are also going to display some of my pieces in reception, they're half beauty rooms so fingers crossed for sales, and utilities are included in the price so I just say the rent I pay for that would have been what I would have paid at home. I get far too distracted to work from home, plus my new studio there leaks so was back working from my bedroom!😢 fingers crossed it works out, to be honest I'm really looking forward to it!! Great video as always Basia, enjoy being with your dog (that's the only thing I'll miss, my cat at home!!)
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing2 ай бұрын
oh wow, congratulations!! That's so exciting ❤❤❤ And it totally makes sense in your case - when you're accepting customers and meeting with them, you don't necessarily want to invite them to your home. It's better and safer to have a separate, professional space and I'm sure it will work amazing for you! :) Not to mention the reception, where you can also display your jewelry, it's perfect. Good luck! Fingers crossed all works out great ❤

Excellent topic Basia! I agree on the close to snuggly home, choice. I can also see the benefits of separation - especially if one needs to deal with others (family, etc.). For me, its got to be close and easy to access. My studio is a small enclosed porch. It has a door, and its my own little happy world - and its right next to the rest of my happy world. I work everyday or not. Its all joy, and a little bit of pain (making metal!!). Your home base looks lovely! 😊

I think, when you have a shop and workshop all in one, it makes sense to rent. Otherwise if you have a bit of room in your house, it’s much better to work from home. Yes, I do get distracted by kids, dog, postman, and life in general, but I can work in the morning, evening, weekend, anytime I really want ☺️

Working from home is amazing😍😄 I love being able to work whenever, and i can rest when i need to. But i would love a larger space so i can get more tools and work more efficiently... I can se that you are more relaxed and happy now. But that maby is because of you engagement❤ Congrats to you and Jarek🥂🍾💐❤

Haha, I think you're right, Susanne! Both things have significantly improved my mood, moving the studio back home and our engagement ❤ I agree with you, being able to work whenever and have more freedom with breaks and rest time is great. It's true that there's definitely much less space though, I had to limit my tools and benches. But hopefully, in the future, we'll move to a bigger space, where I'll be able to organize a workshop in a separate room :) Thank you so much for your sweet comment ❤

Such a good video Basia! 🙌🏼 I absolutely love working from my home studio, however, not knowing when to stop is real and I need to be better about it. 🙈 I almost feel guilty not doing something productive in my studio because there’s always something that can be done 🙈😂 thank you for the reminder to have a work life balance 💕 lol
@TheArtOfMetalsmithingАй бұрын
That work-life balance is always a struggle! And distractions, oh dear... haha :) BUT still, with that I wouldn't trade anymore, nothing beats working from home for me. Your studio is wonderful! So spacious and it's great that' it's seperate from your living space itself. But I totally get that feeling of guilt when not doing something productive. But we can't do that all the time! haha

hiya flower, working from home is one of the best things you can do it is like you say all and everything is at your finger tips, i have worked from home since i started i am well insured i have fire blankets to hand small fire extinguisher and a great deal of care and attention when working with the torch, i use salt and vinegar as a plckle works great for me best thing you did without doubt.
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing2 ай бұрын
Exactly, the set up should always have safety measures as well - fire extinguisher especially, these blankets are a great idea too. Choosing less toxic solutions and keeping the space well ventilated. It makes working from home safer and easier :)

I bought my house specifically because the largest room is downstairs with a concrete floor (after i ripped up the carpet) for my glass and jewelry studio. I have a door to shut out the fur kids. I love my home studio, and here in the US i can report it on my taxes

@ClaudiaJasalavich2 ай бұрын
@fenkaa or you could start working with just silver wire. It takes few tools and you can learn to do a lot of things this way.
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing2 ай бұрын
Tackę z płytką do spawania miałam osobno w kuchni, używałam oczywiście palniczek ręczny Dremela. Powodzenia i pozdrawiam ciepło! ❤

I am a creator. I make things from leather, metal, wood and sometimes cardboard and KZbin videos. I work from home and have only one desk to work on. My desk is 2 meters long by 1 meter deep and some days I make jewelry, sometimes leather crafts, dolls houses or rolling cabinets or recording videos. My mind is a mess at times, but I love working from home. Productivity suffers at times though, my comfy chair is far too comfy at times and I get nothing done! Right now I am watching you talking about working at home and I agree, you can work from home, but be strict with yourself and keep creating. 🤍
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing2 ай бұрын
That sounds amazing, love the versatile craft! It would be hard not to have that space at home, with all of the little bits and bobs, you have everything close by and can work whenever. Though I get that sometimes the productivity may suffer haha! Oh, I know it too well
