Susan used a heavier wire in 20ga. You can use 16ga, or 18ga as well. The yellow hoop is made using beadalon wire in a gold plated sterling silver. The Other is a bare copper wire made by parawire.

I made some hoops following this however they are still bendy and malleable, is there a way to stop them bending after I put them into a round shape. (I used 1mm thick iron wire)
@JewelSchool

It may be because of your wire. If it is dead soft wire, it will probably bend out of shape. Try half hard next time!

Hi Susan what wire can I use that's not expensive when practicing just starting so don't want to waste any as I dare say I will
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
It just depends. Thicker wires can be a bit more expensive. You might try working with a dead soft 24ga wire and start by making a simple beaded messy ring: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2eckKyZiseCjZY. Honestly, when you're first starting out you will have some wire waste, so just try to pick good simple beginner projects and work your way up! A tip, memory wire is a great medium to work with if you're just starting out. It's a tempered steel wire that holds it's shape and it's hard to wast wire. You will need a couple of special tools to work with it, but in our opinion, it's well worth the investment. Try this tutorial - Chip Bead Memory Wire Hoops for Beginners: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooKVgqh9p5KhiMk

What kind of wire do you use and does it tarnish? I will be using leather fringe
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
It's a non-tarnish wire, yes. It's a wire that has a base metal, usually made of copper and then a non-tarnish coating of a certain color, whether that's a gold, brass or silver color coating. Leather fringe sounds very cool! Take a picture and tag #JTVJewelSchool and #JTVjewelrylove on Facebook and Instagram! If the holes are large enough in the beads, you should be able to place some on there! You can use a smaller gauge wire and wrap the on as well. Also, try using memory wire. It's great for beaded hoops. Memory Wire Hoops: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZq5nGmCqqeAeqM

@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
If you're concerned about skin allergies, it is best to stick to pure metals like gold and sterling silver. Plated wire can be okay, but if the plating wears off over time, the base metal could cause a skin reaction. You can try coating plated metals with an acrylic sealer and that may help keep the plating from wearing away over time.

What if you wanted to add beads ?
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle! For the thicker wire like your 16ga, you'll need to get a large hold bead. If they don't come large enough, you can try using a bead reamer to make the holes even larger so they slide right on the wire. Make your hoop, put on your beads, then make your connection at the top once you have your bead pattern the way you want it! Just remember, if you put beads all the way around, you won't be able to work harden it like Susan does in the video, so you run the risk of the hoop losing it's shape. If you only use a few beads, you can work warden lightly above the beads - and that should help some. You can also just use memory wire for beaded hoops. memory wire is strong, yet flexible and doesn't have to be hammered at all! Good Luck! When i wrapped my wire around before making the loop at the top my wire didnt look very neat and i struggled to get it to lool tight if you get what i mean, do you have any suggestions on how to achieve this, i tried by hand
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! It can be hard, but just try to get it as tight as you can around the mandrel and hold it steady with your fingers. If you find wrapping the wire around at the top is hard to do with your human digits, try a bent chain nose plier. It has a fine tip to grab with and may let you be a little more precise when wrapping, plus pull the wire a bit tighter. Hope this helps!
