AU SOHC > RB20. AU engines are cheap and will make 57.836x the torque of the 2L. 300kW from an AU engine is nothing for it. The standard reg is also boost referenced but more fuel pressure never hurts. If you run an oil restrictor you need to water cool the turbo. Please keep it SOHC it will be soo much better!
@ceffydriver2 жыл бұрын
If you get the ute to be around 1400kg with a RB20 and a diff ratio of 4:11, the RB will be able to move it just as if it was in a ceffy or laurel right? It helps that I own two ceffs AND an AU ;)
@bigcazza52602 жыл бұрын
@@ceffydriver your right diff gear can make it move biut at the\ cost of spending less time at peak power
@ceffydriver2 жыл бұрын
@@bigcazza5260 Huh? that's not how gears work mate. like cefiros, laurels, r32s all have a diff ratio of 4.36. The reason? because RB20's rev to fucking 8 grand and the power band is like from 3k to 6.5k rpm so the diff ratio IS that low for the sake of keeping the torque multiplier high in peak power. Ford have low ratios like 3.08 / 3.23 / 3.45 due to having " a big torquey 6 that doesn't rev in a family car designed to idle at 100" but even with the bog warmer the first gear is still too high for it to be quick off the line and worse in the auto.
@bigcazza52602 жыл бұрын
@@ceffydriver i know how gearing works, me at 12:84 doing 11k rpm ~ = mates going 10:86 at 15k rpm point is you are still moving through power band quicker. could have used a 3.45 and had twice the time spent between 5 and 8 grand where the rb is actually gunna pull, rather than shifting it 3 times to keep it in that rev range
@ceffydriver2 жыл бұрын
@@bigcazza5260 Yeah I don't think you get it mate. Diff ratios , specifically low ones are torque multipliers, it has nothing to do with "the amount of time the engine is spent in the powerband" and more of the overall speed in gears. Change the end ratio or tyre size and the speed in gears goes up / down linearly. Like I said though, a stripped AU ute that weighs 1400kg with a rb20det and 4:11 diff is going to act the same as my cefiro that is 1360kg (dry) with a rb20det and 4:11 diff ratio. (one with a 33 diff and Kaaz 1.5 way) I own two ceffs, one stagea and a AU, driven many (worked on) a 32 and 33s so I think I know my way around cars a bit. But what the fuck would I know right? I think you are getting mixed up with what it is to get an object moving, you see it's torque that "does work" and by "doing work" means moving weight forward and a lower ratio can move more weight by having more tractive force at the cost of peak gear speed. This is the sole reason why ford used the 3.45 ratios in the xr6 to bring on power delivery sooner and make it feel lively.

A hose runs from intake manifold through a one way valve with the map sensor on the end of it. So map sensor sees vacuum but one way valve stops any boost getting to map sensor. So under boost map sensor reads atmospheric pressure. Which add a decent amount of fuel

Hey blokes, i’m 17 and currently building a turbo au drift car. I’ve been to a few of your events and went on friday and went for a ride with a pro which has gotten me more keen then ever to get my car on the track. I’ve done all the essentials: au house lock and camber kit, twin calliper rear, hydro, spooled diff and also strapped a turbo to it. I’ve been keen as to take it to the drift school and be a driver not just a spectator 😂. But I saw you guys turbod your au and it seems to be running mint, mine is running terribly at the moment (won’t rev past 3k and is overfuelling like a dog), was just wondering what you guys have done to get yours running perfectly (mines a budget build so i can’t afford to put a new ecu in it) it’s getting a j3 chip, rising rate fuel reg, 42lb injectors and a 2 bar map sensor. I’ve been asking around but no one will give me any proper answers so i figured i’d ask you guys.
@keepitreet2 жыл бұрын
Hey mate keen to see you on track! The j3 chip and map sensor ect will take care of your issues. But what we did was pull the map sensor off the intake manifold and put it on a hose with a one way valve. So it an see vacuum but won't see any boost. It's ghetto but worked for low low psi . We are getting a j3 chip too so we can tune it properly

Here's a whole heap of useless information about OEM skyline turbos. All the ceramic RB turbos are actually ball bearing with the exception of the OG RB20 Redtop and RB30 which had a journal bearing garrett core. You can identify that they are ball bearing by the retaining bolt in the middle of the core with holds the centre section of the bearing cages in the correct position. They were made by Hitachi for Nissan. RB20, RB25, RB25 Neo and VG30ET turbos all use the same size ceramic exhaust wheels so all rear housings are interchangeable. RB20 Silvertop S2 turbos have the same size compressor wheel as the VG30ET turbo so you can swap over the housings over interchangeably.
