I was digging through my video archives to find a trip i made in 1990. Finally found it and digitized it. It was our first video camcorder and it was big and heavy lol. And used big Vhs tapes. I made a trip to California to visit a friend and travel through the Sierra mountains. What a blast ! I traveled from JFK to LAX on American Airlines. Can anyone identify the aircraft type ? Enjoy and please Sub and Like, Thank you very much.

Stories .....And how bout some stories, memories that you take with you forever 🤔.......... My name is Pete and I'm 62 Yrs. Young and a native NY'er all my life 😉... When i was a kid in the 70's, whenever i happen to be home, i could here this bird from miles away. When i heard those engines roar, i knew immediately. No aircraft I've ever heard sounds like it. I only had a minute or two. I would run outside to make sure i didn't miss the most majestic, loudest and classiest bird I've ever encountered. She'd fly right over my head at maybe 1500 ft. cruising into Jfk. Getting to witness this steel bird called the British Concorde was simply priceless. I so wish i could have flown her 😞👊

I remember my dad told me about his first dc-10 flight ever. He was flying from New Delhi- Amsterdam on Northwest airlines, back in ‘82. He told me how the flight went very smooth and he enjoyed it. The dc-10 shouldn’t be recognized for its reputation of crashes. It was really a wonderful plane.

100% agreed…one of my first flights ever was on a northwest dc-10 as a little kid in the 90s and it was a beautiful flight. The inboard ailerons were *so fascinating* to me. Personally, the golden age was from 1965-1985. By late 1986 the beginning of the mergers was taking place. 1985 was truly the last good years of airline travel. I was born in '67 and was fortunate enough to fly on a number of classic airliners and airliners to Eastern Europe.

I remember a friend of mine had a Beta cam in '85. Big bulky camera and you wore the battery pack on a sling like a purse. The video mike was so-so and the video qiality was average. Fast forward to 1989 when he got a Hi 8 camera which was smaller lighter with improvements in video and audio but the tapes had a very short shelf life. before they deteriorated.@@NewYorkCityAviation

Great video! AeroMexico used to fly the DC 10 from JFK to CUN back then. In the 80s it was the only nonstop from the NYC area to CUN, we'd go every year. I remember they didn't have computers for seating so there was a sticker board in the seating configuration and your seat was a sticker on your boarding pass. In August 1990 I flew EWR to LAX on United on a DC8. It was ancient and I loved it because it looked like a cigar. In 1987 we flew a TWA L1011 from JFK to SAN. The L1011 and the DC10's felt so wide. I remember people smoking in designated smoking rows and the sound for the movies came over the headphones, but they were just tubes. A very very different time in the air. I sure do miss all those old tri-jets. Thanks for sharing.

This was 1 day before my 11th birthday. I remember that brown LA smog used to be the absolute norm. LA still gets days like that but I think the air is a little cleaner these days -- that's an accomplishment considering the population has inreased significantly. Wow, look at that DC-8 at 30:56 that was probably close to its last year of service!

I certainly understand how you feel. I feel the same whenever i hear "737 Max" . Boeing put in a computer software program and some external senses that balance out the aircraft, instead of fixing the actual structural problem. And never told the pilots. Mcas has killed almost 600 people so far. And no one from Boeing burned for it. I'll never set foot on a Max.

People nowadays really have no idea how very Powerful the takeoffs were in those Beautiful Airplanes. Im also sure they never knew that McDonnell Douglas was very close to making a MD-12 which would have been the first true Double Decker Airline, able to hold over 500 passengers. Came very close too. I am 45 years old and remember flying to Florida and other states many times as a child and teen. Alot of my flight memories from that time were DC-10s however one time something Mechanical happened with our plane and Delta switched us to a Boeing 747-400 It was such a different time back then. The whole upper deck which was usually First Class was a Lounge with tables in it. I also remember the pilots always bringing all the children who wanted to into the cockpit during all my early flights. Thank u for this video !! I havent thought of that memory until i saw the United 747 on the tarmac.

Actually if i remember correctly, aircraft was probably one of the first one's to restrict smoking. I don't think they had smoke detectors at that time so it was basically on the honor system. That's when people started smoking in the lavatories 🚬 🚫
@Jeff-sp7bg
@Jeff-sp7bg 8 ай бұрын
The air in the planes actually used to be fresher because it was completely recirculated ever 3 minutes now it's every 7 min. If u sat behind the smokers in smoking it was AWFUL. Many more people smoked back then especially on the east coast. In the 70s 50% of the population smoked. The planes were bigger for the routes, way more leg room and people were friendlier and talked more. Socializing has sadly been lost in our society. It's sick and needs fixing. We would sit in front of MS FS for hours co-piloting, or he would take me to Frankfurt Airport every year between 2000 and 2003 to spend an entire day on both terraces. If you flew to & from SJU (PR) & JFK (NY) in the 80's and 90's on AA, you almost certainly flew on a DC10. I made countless trips and never once felt any turbulence on that trijet, even in stormy rainy conditions. The DC10 ate turbulence for fuel! I cannot say the same however for its successor, the A300 - 600 & 767.
