I also love this pen. I match it with a Stypen in a beautiful semi-transparent red.

This ink is one of the first full bottles I purchased as a newbie fountain pen user years ago, and the color still thrills me every time I see that ink seep out on the page. As a left-handed writer, it's a little slow to dry for my preference, but that color makes it worth a couple of smears and the "wounded pinkie" look I acquire when i use it.😂 Thanks for another great video!

I have been looking for a nice red ink. This looks like I found it.

A shading red? Yes, I will be ordering a sample. My go to is Diamine Red Dragon. I keep it in a Wing Sung 698 and I find myself reaching for it everyday.

@@ClearMind-1752 Hello! :) I'm from the lovely city of Ghent. You?
Btw, I've got similar views to yours about reds. Fwiw, my favourites are Diamine Writer's Blood for a dark red, and their Ruby for a bright, more scarlet, red. The other ink I like to use is Waterman Audacious Red.

I'm with you about reds. Not pinkish or orangish. Red. Have you ever used Sheaffer Skrip Red? Currently out of production, but Lisa Anderson of Anderson Pens says the new owner of Sheaffer said they're going to produce it again. It's THE red as far as I'm concerned. No fancy stuff (no shimmer or anything else. Not even shading) but it's RED. The same color as BIC ballpoint red, but longer history than BIC. How does this Herbin ink compare to BIC red?

Thanks for this review, it's just what I've been looking for. I've hunted for a vibrant red that has good shading, especially on my 'go to' - Clairefontaine paper. You've sold me😊

Thanks for a wonderful video, as always. Love this beautiful ink. Red is my favorite color. Perfect shade. Stipula makes a decent red, Calamo dark red.

Nice look at this ink James. Like you, I like deep rich reds. All the favorites you mentioned are also the reds I use. I wanted to suggest another red that I think is unused and overlooked. It is Pure Pens Cadwaladr. It is my go to red.

PS. Besides having beautiful color, working well in all my pens with various papers, P.P. Cadwaladr is $9 for 60ml.

Grenat is a garnet. The gems on the front are garnets. I adore blue-reds and this is going on my wish list.

I have a sample of this I haven’t tried yet. Now I can’t wait for my red pens to run out of ink so I can try it. I especially like deep reds and a favorite of mine is Diamine Syrah, a smidge more on the purple side of burgundy than Oxblood.

Syrah is another great one. 👍

I just bought Diamine Crimson which is similar to this ink in terms of shade. Had I seem this earlier perhaps I would have been swayed to get this. Excellent review, James.

I have Crimson from my last Cultpens order, but I haven't used it, yet. Sounds good!

Beautiful color! Unfortunately, many places refuse to let you use red or red-ish inks. For instance doctors' offices, and US Government locations.

I have oxblood, which I like a lot. But a vibrant red is always nice too. I have a cheap red ink but I think I will check this out. Thank you.

Pomegranate, Garnet, Grenadine, and Grenade are actually related words ( probably). And come from a Latin word for seed. I like that we retain the 'pomme' element of the fruit name, while the French have dropped it. 😀

When you consider that grenadine syrup is supposed to be made with pomegranate juice, the etymological connection seems apparent.

I have this red and really like it. I have also started using Sailor Manyo Kuzu. It’s a deeper red than the J Heevon Rouge Grenat to me.

Edelstein Star Ruby Red (Pelikan) is without a doubt in my mind (😁) incontestably better. ✒ Not to say your J. Herbin Rouge Grenat isn't wonderful. It just doesn't beat Star Ruby. ✒ Plus the Edelstein bottle is much nicer.😍 Star Ruby isn't very much available anymore. Still, it's the champion in my opinion if anyone can buy a bottle (it was the "ink of the year).

just to give you a heads up, this ink is prone to nib crusts:(, but agree with you: it’s just a wonderful colour(J Herbin’s colour palette is pretty much perfect imho!:); if you’re after a similar colour without the potential for crusts try Montblanc St Exupéry:)
