Pretty pen. Good review. I've never tried an Opus 88, so thanks. As to cheese . . . I've taken to using Manchego. Doesn't take much to add flavor to my sandwiches, which is a consideration when you're watching the cholesterol, and it is firm enough to come easily off the knife. No sticking.

The Call of Cthulhu, like driving in Austin? Oh, how true. I worried for your soul when I first saw the demonic ink. Very reassuring you've got experience with Austin traffic. If you can deal with rush hour I35, ancient evil would hardly be a challenge. By the way, do you know what lies on the bottom of the sea and twitches? A nervous wreck, of course! Nice pen, nice review. Opus 88 pens are very nice. This one is particularly handsome.
@danielklopp70075 ай бұрын
If traveling through Austin in a north/south direction, you can try skipping I-35 traffic by detouring on MoPac or Loop-360, or pay the ridiculous toll on 130... but you're probably better off sitting in stop-and-go on I-35... which is why I moved from Austin to southern Delaware (giving me more time to use my fountain pens) !!
@johnnyragadoo24145 ай бұрын
@@danielklopp7007 Good advice. Before Mopac, traffic could get truly awful. But Mopac goes back long before a lot of people realize. The first Mopac bridges were built in the early 60's, partly to shamefully increase pressure on minorities in Clarksville (think 12th west of Lamar) to relocate. That wasn't a proud chapter in Austin history. By 1972, the Mopac roadbed was in place from Town Lake through Anderson Lane. At night you could get away with driving the gravel roadbed. There was about a 6 inch difference between the bridge surfaces and the road, so you had to creep over that like hopping a curb. Kids used Mopac for years before it opened. Trespassing, of course, but they could plead insanity - what 17 year old really has all his marbles? 🙂
@JG3Reviews5 ай бұрын
Normally, I plan around rush hours well enough that it's really not bad. Mopac definitely is the way I go if I'm just passing through to/from the south. I've had times I hit it just right and just flew right through. We stopped going I-35 when they started redoing all the interchanges in Round Rock a while back (though my wife is having IKEA withdrawals, so I'll be back on that side soon).

@@JG3Reviews I wish the Austin I grew up in was still there. It seems like just bits and pieces poke out here and there. Like the song, they paved paradise and put up a parking lot. Not that I'm against progress. I just miss my old home.

Thanks for the review James. I’ve had my eye on Opus 88 pens because they seem so well made but just can’t make up my mind which one yet. What I like about this one is it being an eyed dropper fill pen an and it’s such a beautiful color too. James, try a German blue cheese if you ever get the chance. Sorry I can’t remember the name of it.
@JG3Reviews27 күн бұрын
I’ll have to put that on my list. I’m the only blue cheese eater in my household. I can say after using the Opus for a lot longer now that the pen lived up to first impressions. It’s a terrific writer, and I’ve kept it inked up and in regular rotation since then.

@@JG3Reviews I did some research and think it’s called Montagnolo Affine Cheese, which seems like a mixture of blue cheese and Brie. They had it at Whole Foods market when I worked there in the cheese department.

Love your content and congrats on receiving the sample from Goldspot! Personally, I think the resin looks beautiful. However, considering it’s a barrel filled pen I think at least an ink window is necessary for practical use.

Hey James, a nice review for a nice looking pen. I've had my Demo (and it is a demonstrator) for some time and love the ink capacity & how it fits well in the hand. I have a couple of Pilot Parallels as well (I don't care for the body of the pen), and what I found out is you can unscrew the nib unit from the Demo, then pull the Nib/Feed out of the Parallel section and it slides right into the Demo section without much effort. It works a lot better than the normal Parallel body and gives one a greater capacity since those nibs can really lay down some ink!!
@manuelsalazar39385 ай бұрын
You found out? That tip has been floating around in the community for years, given that Opus 88 uses Jowo nibs and housings probably any pen that supports these housings can fit the parallel nib, I'm not willing to try though 😅

I bought two Opus 88 Omar's; one works perfectly, the other writes a few words then dries up. I have cleaned it completely, changed inks, used way too much lubricant and it still dries up. I'm going to write to Goldspot, but in the meantime, any thoughts about how to fix this problem?
@JG3Reviews5 ай бұрын
It can be a few things, but you did what I'd do first (cleaning). I've a only a few that had this problem, and sometimes it was the need for a sonic cleaning, but sometimes it was the need of a bit of brass shim (or a feeler guage). I don't have a video of that, but this one has some good info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWbRiJVprtd4ndEsi=qF8FbVGf52vT8NZW
