Shinji was fighting to revive the Yaochi Clan and Jun was fighting to revive his brother. The artifact at the end grants the strongest warrior (I think could just be any warrior) one wish. This was all explained in the trailer for this 2 years ago.

It’s the other way around. The trailer says that one of them was trying to revive their lost clan and in the info card jun’s clan is unknown. Also when it said one lost a brother in the trailer the person was holding a yellow glowing locket.
