It is not the matte vs glossy who give a difference in black in light environment. It is specifically the ql-oled panel, the layer of quantum dots emit light to a lower energy of the light who hit them; to avoid this it is necessary put a polarized filter above. However it is not possible to stop all the light from the outside and you will see like if the black is rised up. If you put a matte coat in qd oled (like the Samsung monitor) you improve a bit. However, the WOLED does not need a matte coat to make black look black because they have no emissive quantum dot but common color filter. Therefore is not the coating to make this difference but the technology it-self. As always they will understand the non-sense and later will be released a glossy WOLED who sell way more than the mate due to higher broghtess, dual mode and standard subpixel layout + withe (rwgb) ..

Yeah thats the thing I noticed on cheap monitors running HDR reshades. It didnt look as good as other peers. The author described how monitor affects visuals by a lot especially black stabilization. I should upgrade my monitor sometime lol

If you think it looks good then you should play on a monitor capable of actual HDR…these OLEDs suck at hdr due to extremely low brightness. Only mini LED monitors get bright enough for real HDR (1000 nits full screen)

I have an OLED too btw, I am not a fanboy of either Mini LED or OLED. For HDR, Mini LED just smokes OLED. You're not getting real HDR unless your monitor can do atleast 800-1000 nits fullscreen. OLEDs top out at 300 nits lol

Owner of UCDP here and wow I must say after seeing them side by side the colors of the UCDM are just incredible and would honestly make me reconsider the UCDP. But I will say I am really enjoying the monitor as I am a competitive multiplayer gamer ( cod/warzone, overwatch, destiny 2). Having the higher refresh rate is nice but I will give you everyone a fair warning that the image quality doesn’t not look good. In ultra performance mode on and low graphics settings I can push 450-500 fps but the quality is horrendous. I personally don’t mind as you can also just easily change from ultra performance to quality. For me the biggest buying point of the UCDP was the dual mode as I think it’s like having two monitors in one and as hardware progresses I can run 1080p at 480hz while having it it in quality mode which will be nice.

Don't do it. I owned both. I kept the UCDP. It's not worth the loss of 480hz. Also, the reflections on a glossy screen can be super annoying and distracting. No one wants to play games in the dark all the day. Obviously the UCDM is more vibrant and the HDR experience slightly better. Still not worth it for me. I love 480hz and I love the matte finish.

i am using the LG equivalent of the dual mode feature. the LG 32GS95UE. chose that over the asus due to the aesthetics. i play cs2 so i use the FHD 480hz mode. what i did was up the anti aliasing in the in game settings and that will the FHD picture quality to be decent. My eyes are now used to CS2 in FHD on this 32 inch monitor. I adapt pretty fast. Before using this monitor, i was using 1440P on the alienware AW2725DF 360hz monitor. no issues adapting to FHD 480hz with anti aliasing up.

It is very simple: if you have a bright room where you can’t control the light, go with the matte WOLED panel. Otherwise, I would personally go with a glossy panel.

Nah. The 1080p 480hz mode is so underrated. Actually absurd to recommend the other monitor just because of this. It’s not just better for competitive games… it’s way better for roguelikes, old games that don’t have 4k textures anyway, and in games where you’d just prefer to run 1080 anyway since 4k is too demanding. Also I’m speaking from experience- I have the LG Oled version of this and I use the 1080p over half the time and I’m not a huge competitive gamer. You just need to make sure you have the monitor the correct distance away from you for perceived pixel density- I have mine wall mounted which helps with that.

Don’t make decisions based only on reflections. The woled panel is really great, not a classic mate version, have more options/versatility, and text clarity is really improved this year, better than qled. I recommend the LG version, not this ASUS version of the panel, tbf.

That oversaturated and warm temperature colors on CDM are soo wrong in my opinion... I am so grateful for your work in this video, as side-by-side capture, because I have finally seen the downsides, from my perspective on CDM, more like on QD-OLDEs. I've purchased ROG PG32UCDM, a month ago, and send it back in 2 days, I think I have enough with QD-OLEDs ( AW3423DW user here ). WOLED for me is all in from now on. EDIT: btw, on WOLED panels, you can bring the color vibrance 3-5% up if you wanna have something similar to QD-OLEDs.

Spud! You might have done a disservice to the UCDP here. The uniform brightness, Auto logo brightness, And screen saver are probably on for the UCDP. When I had the UCDM and UCDP side by side with the same oled care settings, the UCDP was brighter in most tests. The UCDP image did not pop as much as the ucdm due to its matte coating. But that is the trade-off for deep blacks and brighter whites in any kind of environment.

HDR on at all times: watching on my PG32UCDM and I dont get any reflection it also has the added bonus of feeling more organic. harking back to crts where you would get this nice feel to old arcade games with scanlines and it works again with this monitor. as for modern gaming its the best imo. but only with hdmi 2.1 and 12 bit. its plenty bright enough also. I was worried about getting just for that, but it turns out using it in true black most of the time is fine for everything. next stage is using 'gaming hdr' and then if that doesnt cut the mustard with a dark game then I use dolby vision in bright and it is more than enough brightness. I just havnt found reflections on mine im in darker room, but even in day time its not bad at all. you using the monitor in front white walls is a bit daft. PG32UCDP is a bit dim for my taste.

I own a qd-oled from Asus (xg27acdng) and it looks absolutely amazing. I tried a w-oled and it looks amazing too. I'm 100% sure that every new oled users can barely notice the differences between the two. I mostly play in a dark room, so there's not difference in black level. In daylight, i can notice the typical red-ish reflection on qd-oled monitors. Text clarity is amazing. Colours are magnificent

the samsung g80sd is a good compromise, qd-oled with matte screen. I'm going to take this one, beautiful color without reflection, and the coating limits the purple tint that the screen can take on in the light. I play mainly in the dark, but I'm quite sensitive, I like matte better, it's more comfortable for me

after asus launched the new glossy monitor i wanted to compare how much effect it has on view. so i used my old matt lcd and compared it to my s9 ultra with gloss finish. Colors dont matter here on the reflections. Windows are 90° to both monitors 3m away. I have to say as long you got bright images on the glossy screen you wont see much difference but at soon you get some darker pictures you will see everything behind you. it needs to be completly dark and i mean midnight dark around you to not see any reflections/mirroring in the glossy screen. While with the matt coating you wont see anything in daytime and night. That little difference in color is not worth it if you only see your reflection and anything else in the screen.

QD-OLED seems to be the clear winner in dark scenes in-game. But in light scenes, like the Forza clips, the QD-OLED seems way too oversaturated. The greys and whites look red-ish. So I'm leaning towards WOLED. Looks a lot more natural to me. I think that white subpixel does wonders for sunlight.

And … if the room is not dark the UCDM displays black with purple tint. It is also not that good for productivity as text is not displayed clear and sharp … a pain when w working on it. Finally color accuracy is poor. The UCDP having the more accurate colors … more natural.

@@GanymedeXD The Purple tint is a problem yes. I've looked a bit more into the colour situation though. Both monitors have very good colour accuracy, just the ucdm is calibrated worse out of the box. The matte coating on the G80SD seems to help a lot with the purple tint, so I'm looking at that one as it's the one of the cheapest in the UK.

@@Glitch315 Yeah the G80SD is nice. Their matte coating does get rid of the purple tint. But I don't know if it's the panel but it likes to go black for a second like it's turning off and on. I've noticed it only does a couple times when it's on a cold start. After you've used it for a little bit then it doesn't do it anymore. This seems to be a common problem. I'm about to return it and get the UCDP mainly because it has optical audio out so I can out to my speakers when I'm playing on my consoles. But I've also read that even that panel has that same issue too.

@@agentorange8530 if you are talking about the Samsung then I had the same problems you had and I couldnt stand the intrusiveness of having to sign into a samsung account to use a monitor. Also I hated having to use a remote to turn it on like a TV and not be able to see what was being displayed during bootup. If I wanted a TV I would have bought a TV. The Samsung was like having a 32 inch TV that can have a computer hooked up to it as an afterthought. I couldnt return it quick enough. I immediately bought the UCDP.

Biggest deciding factor for folks should be at 4:00. Left side QD-OLED has raised blacks and will never achieve true black, while WOLED does achieve true black. Look at the "black" screen vs. the bezels. You can see where it starts and stops on the QD-OLED but you can't on the WOLED.

No. The biggest factor is vibrancy (where the UCDM will win. It's so visually noticeable, it's probably an insane difference on a technical level) the next biggest factor is the 480hz where the UCDP wins.

I didn't get that "wow" OLED effect. The UCDM and QD-OLED is a noticeable difference and it's definitely more impressive.

The right monitor has more snow white colors while the left has more yellow white colors - It all comes down to temperatures and you could probably just adjust these color temperatures to make both monitors have the exact same RGB profile.

No. Qd-oleds advantage is far better color volume, this means colors will retain saturation better (HDR colors are more accurate).

No one ever mentions that QD-OLEDs have more eye strain complaints than WOLED. That doesn’t mean you will experience any of that WOLED won’t strain your eyes. Every her is different, but QD has a tendency to cause more issues

I've had the privilege of trying both displays. Both are very impressive. I do prefer the UCDM as the colors "pop" more, but that is do to me being used to over saturated colors. Either display will serve one well. The text fringing is worse on the UCDP, though.

I own both Woled and QD-oled, Personally I like the QD-oled more cause the colors are more vibrand by comparision and the raise blacks didn't bother me as much, I also found the matte vs Glossy way less noticable then most people. But to be fair its hard to wrong with either and despite their pros and cons when comparing to each other, both are way better then LCD tech.

I had both monitors side by side, i played wukong and horizon forbidden west to try them, in sdr it was super hard for me to tell a difference but in hdr is where i noticed a difference, ucdm looked brighter and more colorful, this is what i still dont understand, even in your video i can see ucdp looks dimmer, why does it do that if peak brightness is higher on ucdp, i noticed that while testing them, as playing with nvdia control panel color settings, monitor settings i was able to get pretty close to ucdm image, not exactly the same but close to my eyes, so for that reason, i kept ucdp and returned ucdm, plus i heard qd oled blue light is bad for the eyes in the long term. Still wondering why ucdm looks brigjter than ucdp if ucdp has higher peak brightness

This is because the WOLED can only reach a high peak brightness with the color white or with washed out colors due to the white subpixel. The QD-OLED reached that with the three RGB subpixels only. Therefore the color volume, how bright any given color can get is much higher on QD-OLED. It gets brighter in every color except for white and white is not the only bright thing in HDR games.

It's because the colored highlights have a much higher brightness for QD-OLED. WOLEDs brightness numbers are specifically for displaying white so it's somewhat of a marketing trick. It's actually less bright in real HDR scenes for the most part. There are some very in depth tests out there that quantify the exact difference. Personally I went for QD-OLED since I don't have a problem with controlling my lighting conditions and want to get the absolute best possible HDR performance. It wasn't an easy choice though, there are many good arguments for going WOLED too.

Playing with Dolby vision and hdr1000 the qd oled panel jumps up very much in bright highlights and in the more vibrant colors that it is noticeably bright by perception. I experienced this in the Alienware aw3225. People do not test hdr this way though I don’t think in reviews. They just use windows hdr on and do measurements after calibration. I have the p version. I have fomo for the other version. But the Alienware gave me eye fatigue where this one doesn’t. I still may get the other version as it’s in my return window. I think the qd oled version adds more depth do the image where the woled can look flat. Even when vibrancy is turned up. It looks more flat. Not to say bad. But I came from a c2. And do not really notice much difference or improvement.

I had to send mine back PG32UCDM as it kept blinking on and off a believe its a known fault of the proximity sensor in certain models. They will either RMA it or give me a refund do u no if the if later batches have the issue fixed at all.

When you turn off the -uniform brightness -screen saver -auto logo brightness On both panels and they have the same color settings. The ucdp whites and blacks are unmatched. Ucdp gets brighter but not as vibrant and saturated as the ucdm. In this video spud did the ucdp wrong as it appears to be very dimm. In all my testing the ucdp was brighter and kept its black levels better in any environment. That glossy finish of the ucdm is the only thing it has going for it. But it comes at a cost of reflections and raised blacks from the qd panel Ucdp matte on the other hand difuses the lighting and reflection at the cost of slight haziness on a full white background which is slightly noticeable. Productivity use ucdp reigns supreme. The text is clearer. The matte finish is easier on the eyes. Pick your posion boys! Left or right nut

I couldn't agree more. The UCDM looks slightly over saturated and you have to game in the dark fulltime unless you like purplish blacks. I own the UCDP and all I had to do was take it out of the box and be FLOORED by the first games I put on. The blacks are deep and rich and the colors were calibrated at the factory perfectly. I love love love love this monitor. There is zero eyestrain on this monitor. I can game perfectly with a simple 40 watt bulb on the ceiling fan above me and not have it glare on the screen.

ucdp have fake brightness. it doesnt actually boost rgb subpixels. just boost white subpixel. rgb subpixel brightness is very low. ucdm can reach 1000nits in dark scenes with full color. it's just a superior tech, better hardware. dual mode is cool though. woled are super overpriced.

Raised blacks? how? the mirror-like reflections mean that light is less likely to get spread more evenly across the screen, it'd be reflected 1:1. And in a room with the bare minimum light control, that gives it a huge advantage.

yeah exactly, and PLUS dual mode. seals the win for p for me. swap to 4k for shows/visually demanding games and 1080p for competitive games. absolute no brainer

UCDP is so tempting with the anti-glare tech, but I can't justify extra FPS at 1080p over the colors being less vibrant. I don't game more than casually, if at all, so visuals matter most.

This question makes zero sense … use some common sense … a lot is about individual preferences … and thats down to you. Not everything can be fed pre-chewed for you … you actually need to to work it out yourself … didn’t you get that there is no simple answer to a very complex question? UCDP is more expensive … better for productivity … no blurry, washed out text … more accurate colors, no overly vivid Samsung like colors, with ambient light no purplish blacks. Also dual mode.

UCDP best OLED monitor by a long way. Plus UCDP has x4 less input lag 1080p480. Have you calibrated the UCDP? Edit: I’m likely returning the UCDP, the haze/grainy/dusty looking coating of any text on a white background during the daytime is too much. My eyes feel more blurry. While darker backgrounds look ok, any browsing or work isn’t possible on the UCDP for me personally. I’ll either put up with the UCDP or wait for the XG27AQDMG. I don’t like the redish/purple hue the UCDM has on all white backgrounds. Also, 1080p480 is so blurred it should be made redundant.

I have my ps5 pro hooked up to my pg32ucdm and the colors are not that vibrant. They have almost a yellow tint to them. I have the latest software that was supposed to fix it but it doesnt look like his looks. I will try horizon when I get home but call of duty looks yellowish. I think only pc can change their color temps. That would help.
