Jhelum Kund, Mighty Jhelum Starts from here, Mughal Garden, Jammu and Kashmir

Verinag is a town approximately 78 kilometers South-East from Srinagar.
Verinag is also the first tourist spot of Kashmir Valley when travelling by road from Jammu. It lies at the entry point of Kashmir Valley right after crossing Jawahar Tunnel.
Verinag spring is considered the source of the river Jhelum. It is situated at the bottom of a hill covered by pine trees and evergreen plants.
The Mughal Emperor Jehangir constructed an octagonal tank of sculptured stones around the spring for which carvers for were brought from Iran.
The construction date of the octagonal tank and the garden is 1620 A.D., duly inscribed on a stone slab built into the southern wall of the spring. The water is collected in a pool surrounded by arched recesses, and then flows down a 300-yard canal.

My birth place verinag. My childhood days spent there. During Janmashthami , we used to go early morning prabhat pheraii to this point, worship the Shiva temple and come back to our homes. A large gathering used to happen there on Janmashthami day.

Hi Vani, This is a beautiful space.. From Delhi.. By Road - Delhi -> Jammu - Srinagar Highway - Verinaag is just after Jawahar Tunnel. By Air - Delhi -> Srinagar -> Then Taxi to Verinaag. There are other beautiful places around... do visit them also.. Take Care.
