I had discovered Sohyang KZbin surfing one day and must’ve watched her sing practically everyday since, I couldn’t get enough… watched and rewatched some of her performances like this one.Then having John break it down on techniques and how masterful she is at it finally explained my behavior. He was able to articulate what I couldn’t … we are watching something special. She’s not just singing, it’s much more than that, it’s an experience from the soul. Hard to explain.

I love Sohyang and this is my favorite performance. I vividly remember when Simon and Garfunkel released this... I was captivated and played it over and over and over... on my cassette player. But when I heard and saw Sohyang perform it, I felt like I was hearing it for the first time, that I understood it for the first time. Sohyang is very famous among global experts. In fact, famous American producers and big sponsors persuaded her to recruit Sohyang, but she didn't want her life to be famous and she said that she wants to give her people good music as an ordinary singer as she is now.

Very excited to see your video come up for Sohyang's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" since I have seen your reaction and analysis before. Your passion for singing and knowledge of vocal pedagory are obvious. While unfailingly you pointed out the techniques used in this performance and its effect, it really hit home for me when you mentioned Sohyang's singing puts connection on the forefront. There are many excellent singers who are technically proficient and can manage vocal acrobatics, but I have always wondered how Sohyang's singing seems to hit the emotional chord so acutely and pull my heartstring almost without exception. Her singing can invoke emotional responses I didn't know possible, digging out feelings long buried under personal denial or evasion. Thanks for the reaction and analysis to this iconic performance.

My second favourite from her. The first is Arirang. I know this one is more complex and masterful, but Arirang has a certain feel to it that hasn't been surpassed by other of her performances yet. It was my first encounter with her too. To be fair, I don't know all of her music. And life has taught her a thing or two, her heart is out there in the songs. Which is equally important as her singing quality to me. I think she's my favourite female singer even if I don't follow her regularly. There are times when even as a professional, you just let yourself experience the music you hear, beyond the technicalities. That's the point of singing and playing an instrument after all.

I'll tell you John, the first time I heard So Hyang sing this I knew she was simply the best female singer on the planet. And I cried at least the first dozen times I listened to it. Plus, like you, the hair on my bald head was standing on end! All of So Hyang's performances are astonishing but I think this is the best, or _one of_ the best, performances ever captured on video and audio for posterity. Words really fail to convey what So Hyang has done here. It is actually very enjoyable to watch the entire TV show this was captured from. Everyone is performing at a very high and professional level ... and then So Hyang comes on the stage and _absolutely crushes_ the competition with this song! Once she sang there was no doubt in anyone's mind who the winner was. And by _several_ country miles, too! 💖😉🎶👌😎🎸🙃 PS Even the competitors stood there with their jaws bouncing off the ground, and a look of wonderment _and_ enthusiasm on their faces! And she had been so modest, humble, unassuming and friendly backstage with the other competitors. But they _knew_ they were in the presence of a _true_ Super Star when she was done. And she looked _absolutely beautiful_ in the dress jacket she was wearing over her dress. What a woman ... and that second vocal run she did, right after the other woman said "Wow!", is the most beautiful and female sound I have ever heard! 😳
