Andy Timmons: andytimmons.com
In 2016 we brought you the AT, Andy Timmons artist signature pedal and we're really proud to bring you the next iteration of this phenomenal stomp box, The AT+.
The JHS Pedals AT is Andy Timmons signature overdrive pedal that gives Andy his unmistakable lead and rhythm tone. Upon purchasing a JHS Angry Charlie in 2013, Andy began using it as his primary tone and soon after got in touch with Josh Scott about modifying it for his needs. Through going back and forth and tailoring it to Andy’s tastes, the “@“ was born and eventually released into production in 2016. This pedal gives you all the soaring overdrive and distortion that you hear from Andy with plenty of options to craft your tone with your rig.

I just got mine in the mail today! My first JHS pedal! This OD/ Distrotion is killer. It’s so thick and meaty. I play through a joyo 20watt hybrid amp, through a 1x12 with a v30 in it. This pedal makes my little rig sound full, and way bigger than it should! Maybe not 4x12 big but way way way larger than it should sound. Well done Andy, and the fine folks at JHS 10/10

I totally feel the same about it. I have a JHS Angry Charlie V3, which is where the core of the @ tone lies, and it hasn’t left my pedalboard since I first tried it. I also have a JHS Bonsai, which I run into the AC, and THAT combo is friggin incredible! And yeah man, to my ear It does a great job emulating/replicating a hot-rodded JCM800!
@mrmatthew2443

I’ll AB it with my JCM 800 50 watt And see .. but I’m guessing from what I’m hearing that it’s not exactly the same I think Josh said he modeled it after the JCM 800 particularly.. not sure though It certainly has way way more gain than my 800 One response to your question is yes , but a hot rodded JCM 800 And that’s definitely right if indeed it is designed as a JCM 800 But just having a independent boost makes it a very versified pedal And like Andy says being able to use it with a strat neck pickup sets it apart from other Marshall dirt boxes

I have been through so many overdrives, but this is a keeper. Running it at 18v in the 50watt setting. I found that putting a TC Spark Boost in front of it (sorry!!!) gave me an even more perfect staged overdriven tone that pops the mids just to where I want them

Just get one of the earlier versions they have the core tone as the AT+ and some of them may even be better because I think these are surface mount components and his first couple versions were hand wired components, meaning they sound a little more open possibly I’ll have to get a few of the earlier versions and AB them Though I think there may be some KZbin comparisons already

Is it just me or isn't there suppose to be a cruiser in the middle position on Andy's guitar? Looks like a normal single coil with the bottom 2 (b and high e) poles removed??? Or it look rather like the poles for the B and E are set super low.......
@nicholash8021
@nicholash8021 6 жыл бұрын
Anyone notice the extremely low pickup height--particularly the middle pickup? It's also slightly lower on the high E side which is pretty much opposite of what I normally do. I am more of an acoustic guitar player, but thought this was strange because you'd have to turn the gain up more to get enough volume with a low pickup height which would increase the noise. On the other hand, it sounded pretty clean.
@jdavis.fw303
@jdavis.fw303 6 жыл бұрын
My guess is that it is more about clean headroom. If you don't jam as much signal at the beginning you can get higher gain later without gross clipping. It's not always necessary but many times it is. So maybe he likes the sound of less signal going into his AT pedal. I am switching my fat 50's pickups in my MIA strat to 69' custom shop which are significantly lower output for just that reason. Also with single coils especially, depending on how you have your guitar wired, turning down the volume knob results in treble loss (no treble bleed on strats). So he may like less output but still keeping it at full volume. Instead of changing pickups like me which results in even more tone changes than just output (which I want) you can just lower pickup height which lowers output without changing tone too significantly. Also when you lower pickup height you gain some sustain (to a point) because the magnetic pull of the pickups isn't grabbing the strings as hard. Which when you can get all that volume back in other places can be an asset for dynamics. Just theories, could be any number of rational or irrational reasons.
@nicholash8021
@nicholash8021 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the explanation Jonathan. I didn't think about the sustain being affected by the magnets until now.

Can anyone tell me if this is inherently a noisy pedal or if it’s just my particular pedal that has an issue? With only the distortion engaged there’s some hum, which I suppose is common in distortion pedals, and it’s mostly manageable. But when I also engage the boost, it’s too much, even both noise gates I tried struggle to tell the difference between the excessive hum and the signal of my regular playing. The noise gates I have are the ISP Deci-mate (mini) and the TC Sentry, neither are slouches but they both struggled with this pedal.

To make this pedal sound exactly as the Angry Charlie, What mode should I use? 25W, 50W or 100W??
@mikegrisafi541

The 50W mode engages LED clippers which is what the AC uses

@rgr4929 4 жыл бұрын
@@mikegrisafi541 Thank you!!! So, each mode has a different clipping?
@mikegrisafi541
@mikegrisafi541 4 жыл бұрын
@@rgr4929 Correct, from my understanding of the circuit the 25W mode uses schottky diodes which clip the signal VERY early giving the most distorted tone and allows only very low output volume. The 50W mode uses LEDs for clipping which clip significantly later and will be quite a bit less distorted and more touch sensitive while also allowing the pedal to be louder overall. Lastly the 100W mode removes all clipping diodes being the loudest and least distorted. But unless the gain is set to the , the opamp will still likely be configured to try to put out more gain it is capable of from a 9V supply which results in direct clipping from the opamp itself. Now I'm using the schematic from the pedalPCB version to pull this info and haven't seen an official trace of the actual JHS pedals...so I could be wrong on some of these details.
@mikegrisafi541
@mikegrisafi541 4 жыл бұрын
@@rgr4929 Also, since you asked about making this sound 'exactly as the Angry Charlie', keep in mind that these 2 pedals have different tone shaping options and is likely not to share much common ground. The AT version is designed for very careful tweaking of the treble frequencies while the current AC has a rather unique (and fascinating IMO) 3 band EQ.
