I’m in tube amp Facebook groups and they’re all genuinely mad at this and all of a sudden they’re all saying how these videos have “always sounded horrible” despite the fact that this has only been happening for a year. I saw someone say “if he’s lying about this then he’s probably lying about other stuff”. Then some of them are mad that Josh can get pedals that typically are considered bad to sound good and they think he’s faking it. This stuff is crazy.

I saw the kemper quite a few times and wondered what you guys were doing with it, if you own one they stick out like a sore thumb. Kempers are GREAT pedal platforms, the profiling is one thing but unlike a lot of digital gear, you can push the input just like a tube amp, they respond great to fuzzes, overdrive, anything a tube amp does. I run my board into my kemper first, then use the direct out into my interface as a DI as well as stereo outs so I have dry DI and amped sounds all the time. They feel awesome to play, sound great, and as Josh proved, if you don't KNOW you're hearing a kemper, all you hear is great tone.

a while back they did a video called "How We Record A Song" and it went over their recording process, I'm sure the gear had changed a bit since then but the process will still work. I've done a ton of live-to-tape style recordings and I can tell you the biggest factors are 1, have enough recording inputs with clean AD conversion (I personally used an allen and heath qu series for years, and am currently using a midas MR 18), good enough mics (Mics matter, but the ROI drops of real quick once you get into the expensive stuff), good mic placement, as much seperation between sources as possible (smaller amps, baffling, room placement, and DI whenever it's a good idea) and then a bit of post production. It's definitely attainable, but buying all that gear yourself even on the affordable side definitely stacks up. I did it because I'm passionate about recording.

I found a POD 2.0 with the floor board over the pandemic - $100. It has allowed me to play so much more than when I was using an amp in the house. Using MIDI and the Line 6 software you can really tweak the settings and dial in a great tone. I'm sure that is similar to how the other systems work. My Morning Glory is in front of the POD and sounds great into those models. In fact, you can put your whole pedal board in front of it just like an amp. My amps have been stowed away in the garage and I'm not mad. In fact, I think I'm happier. 97% of us are just hobbyists and don't need back breaking, ear blasting tube amps in their houses. You don't even need to spend the money on the newest modeler/profiler....The kidney bean is still viable. You can apply the extra savings to buying healthier food to make you strong so you can play better :)

If you like the sound of that amp and it's dependable, you made a good investment. Kempers and digital gear loses value fast. Tube amps retain value and can gain value on the used market. Just find the tones you like and stick with the amp you like. Noone really needs 30 amp sims. If you like one amp, you like one amp... I use a wall of tube and SS Orange and PV amps with many different speakers. No Kemper can replace my wall or my analog dirt and modulation. If you are a knob fiddler, and not into presets. Tube or SS Jfets heads are perfect. What amp and cab did you get?

A lot of people don't like the technical side of it, but without sounding like too much a jerk, it seems a lot of them older folks who may have struggles with tech. It's really not difficult at all to dial in a sound you want. Finding the right profile as a foundation can be a little tougher because of the way they were modeled and what guitar was used etc...but the rig manager, which is kind of like the itunes but for Kempers, is loaded with 30k+ profiles and there's so many out there to purchase. So, to answer your question, yeah, you can. People complain about a "feel" difference. A few times I've noticed it, but again, it depends on your profile, guitar, speaker, and location. I actually find that the Kemper improves on a lot of amps. I can't describe why, but it feels like it brings some amps to life.

Please do more on these topics- especially the pedal oriented preamps (see Sansamps, Joyo American Sound, EAE Model Fet) combined with something like IR pedals (you had the Flamma Cab on once. )

How about those Zoom multi effects? You know the ones, that were $35 new in 2001? Those are sick.

Really entertaining video. Love the Kemper and the Quad Cortex. Leave the heavy expensive amps at home and use the Kemper live!

This was brilliant! In the Grunge episode, I noticed that the amp was dialed in a really weird way (volume almost at zero, bass and mids maxed out), but it sounded great so I didn't think too much of it. Having seen the mini documentary on the history of JHS, I was wondering how the employees could work with you guys blasting the amps: this made a lot of sense.

This is the best show on KZbin. My girlfriend knows nothing about guitars and still is entertained enough to watch this ridiculousness with me. Thank you for being you!

Thanks Josh. This video makes it so much easier to hear the digital harshness, the cold, sterile and much lower resolution in the digital gear. Seems like I've been having a "bad-ear-day" for an entire year. Glad that's been fixed! 👍

This was a FANTASTIC show. So good Josh. I have a Kemper and can't wait to get these profiles... right after I finish this can of Spam.

I play live, I have kemper stages mounted to temple audio pedal board with wireless everything and it stuns people. I roll in with pedalboard plug direct to FOH grab guitar and go. Easy in and out. Setup time is couple min and can sound like anything.

So, they sound good through house PAs? Or what? I’m all for it but I have trouble believing they’re good for any old PA. Please advise!! Stat!!
@FastRedPonyCar Жыл бұрын
@@thetruthexperiment yea. I owned one for over 10 years. They’re incredible but a bit lacking on the effects. I sold mine and just run my favorite tube amps into a captor X on stage for a really killer sounding DI sound. I only used profiles of my own amps so why not just use the real deal. For a studio tool though, the Kemper (and to and even greater extent, the AxeFX3, which I also recently sold after owning over a year) the digital stuff is HARD to beat.

This actually makes a lot of sense to me because as we all know only the pickups effect the tone, so you can really plug into a toaster oven if you want.
