Every superhero or villain has an origin story. We're still not sure where Josh lands on that spectrum (a villainous hero? A heroic villain? The plucky comic relief?), but this is his story. Really, it's our story, because this is the week that we dare to ask the question: "Who is JHS Pedals?"

As a young (16) pedal builder, youve been my biggest inspiration. When I was 13, I asked my dad if he could buy me some pedals. He told me that i should try to build some myself. I loved everything about this episode! The 60 minutes style opening, the story, the conclusion....everything! It made me incredibly proud to own a few JHS pedals in my pedal arsenal that I am slowly building. I am sure I will buy more JHS Pedals in the near future! I actually felt a little bad because I remember way back in the day that Josh was selling a modded Big Muff, I believe, and I did not have the funds to buy and it sold out before I saved up enough. . I think it was in that period where Josh was overwhelmed and working 18 hours a day in a shed. But I am supporting yall now! :) The one thing I really like about the JHS story is that Josh truly paid his dues and now he is enjoying the fruits of his labor. I mean come on, did Josh ever really think he would be part of the Guiness Book of World Records biggest pedal board or work on a musical about pedals?? And now he has! But what I really loved in this story is Josh acknowledging that JHS is just a name now where he has built an incredible team of individuals to bring JHS to the masses (and not burn himself out). Truly Josh is an American success story! Also I just also want to give a shoutout to Nick and whoever else that produces these videos. I have a background in TV and I can safely say that these videos are some of the best videos on KZbin! Truly a pleasure to watch every time. The Whitey Tighty, and the Prestige, they bookend the rest of my board with the Whitey Tighty keeping the junk in place from the start, and the Prestige sending it buffered and boosted out the end. Maybe the biggest reason JHS is successful is Josh saying, "I needed someone to argue with me." That's a great attitude for a boss -- I tell people who work for me, "if I'm doing something stupid tell me!" -- and explains a lot about why the JHS team looks like a great place to work. If people won't tell you the truth, or if you won't accept them telling you the truth, you cannot make good decisions. This is the second time I've watched this. It just feels good to watch. Thanks!

That tunnel is objectively amazing. It seems architected for big wet sound. I dig the concrete stairs at the end spreading out the delay time to give a softened echo instead of a hard slap-back you'd get from a flat wall.

Got a funny story about pedal modding…back in the day I needed a particular cap to try on a Tube Screamer mod. Walked into Radio Shack. Found the part and start talking with the guy behind the counter. He says billionaire Ross Perot was just in the store looking for a multimeter. Perot had pulled up in a beat up van. This has become my favorite show within the last month or so of discovering it. @jhspedals I have a burning question that I cant find an answer to anywhere online, and figured that one of you guys may have the answer to. Soo here it is: Does anyone (even viewers) know what the D1 diode in the BOSS DS-1 is responsible for. The one in mine cracked (i assume from a surge.. ?), so i clipped it out completely, which in turn made it into a weird fuzz pedal. Keep on rocking guys! Y'all are an inspiration to a fella.

The diode D1 is protection against reverse polarity connections, in case the player connects a wrong power adapter.

I remember seeing a few early morning glories circulating in TGP classifieds around 2010 or so, and then about a year or so ago when I started buying pedals again to update the rig, suddenly the JHS name is everywhere! Great story and video! Two things: First, behind most entrepreneur success stories (like Josh’s) is a supportive family that believes in the idea and is willing to risk larger financial failure to make it work. It’s always a unique guy or girl who has a wild idea and is driven to do it beyond most normal people. That can’t work without enormous support from loved ones. Second, it was really smart to tell the same story twice. Once on location and the other in the shop. It kept the whole thing really interesting.

I got into pedal building because I always liked effects pedals. It all started with The Edge. His mastery of effects to create cascades of sound is what turned me on to the aural possibilities that effects pedals could create. I was into a lot of alternative and hard rock music as well. Artists like Incubus, Faith No More and Primus. There were others as well, drawing from all genres and decades. I always gravitated towards weird sounding, expansive and ethereal tones but also enjoyed heavy, driving, pulsating rhythmic music. Effects pedals can be expensive so I looked into making my own. I had a solid background in electronics so it seemed a no brainer. I got a great book on Guitar Electronics which had a heap of effects schematics and pcb layouts. That book was awesome. As I got more and more into it I collected 50 + years of schematics and tube amp design books. Now I make pedals just for myself and tend to mix and match effects circuits to create new and wonderful sounds. One thing I’m trying to get into the moment is Arduino and Raspberry Pi. Also trying to learn Python. I would like to build a multi effects based on the Pi, with neural learning software and an extensive midi switching system. Will also incorporate a 10” touch screen, a digital interface and all the standard IO’s.

This is the best so far. I have studied 15 guitar content creators for more than 2 years. Like, Paul Davids, Spender, Shull, Beato, to draw a kind of map for my own story on KZbin. But you two, early on I caught this vibe probably from the sticker off to the left, yep with the Heart in Red... at 23:50 where Nick puts his hat on. Just know JHS, I am always pulling for all of you. Sincerely, the old guy in the thumbnail playing a red bass with a red strap in a backyard garage for a brother having his 70th birthday. I was watching KZbin to get info for us new guitar learners. Looking into my first pedal purchase. Analog vs Multi effects...... I come across a few of your videos and immediately subscribed. Since then it's watching you talk about all the history of different pedals, companies. I found a new love for music i never knew was possible. Thank you

A beautiful story, thanks for sharing! I started messing with guitars and associated electronics in the early/mid '70s and wanted to do something gear related. Got my Engineering degree the year Josh was born and started my corporate job. Never really got around to doing much with building/modifying pedals, amps etc. I truly admire that Josh and families had the courage to stay after it and make it work!

I had no idea about this. I'm really happy I started getting back into guitar and music after quitting for so many years. I'd never even heard of JHS back then. I really like what you guys do and I'm really glad you made a KZbin show so we can all watch and learn and understand these great pedals. Especially since I love analog! I also never knew you were tall until now and also noticed your eyebrows haha.

Lots of people have good ideas...the other part of the equation of success is executing on those ideas. Clearly Josh and his team has done a great job of executing on that germinating idea that Josh had. Much continued success for JHS!
