I studied Italian intensively for a year in college. I hope I can express this correctly. It's a little like trying to describe a vivid dream: It literally activated parts of my personality and humanity that I had never been in touch with before in my life. It was an incredible experience. I understand why she says that the language is seductive.

Jhumpa Lahiri seems perfectly Happy in the ITALY by changing cultures, according to her Self-revelations, and also shifting to the writing in the French language , which is the reflection of being more. " Mature " in all aspects ? It's really a matter of great pleasure for all of us , who had studied her few fictions . Secondly , its the Progressive approach of the independent thinking. We , who have studied her writings, greet her wholeheartedly for this Wonderful step which must let her become more Progressive, having spent long time in the USA, where she has been the Professor of the English language. Heartfelt Congrats once again and wish for her " Glorious Future.

Why does this video tear me apart? I too have grown up speaking Hindi, English and Bengali. But I find myself trying to learn languages of countries I might never visit.

0:28 Lady in dark glasses, don't know whether she's native English speaker or Italian-American but the way she dangles the last consonant or vowel at the end of many words (the way Italian is spoken) is so funny.

she is most likely a native speaker, its just her accent

She should have gone to France not Italy to meet Gogol

A pompous woman, full of herself. I saw her in an interview about Elena Ferrante and My Brilliant Friend, in which she was dismissive of her style and knew nothing about the Napolitano language which is referenced throughout the book and its importance in the time period of the book.
