Jidenna impressed us from the start, meaning the moment we first heard his track on Janelle Monáe's 2015 'Wondaland' compilation. A few months later we made him one of our LIFT artists, and the Classic Man brought fans some dazzling performances - that's pretty much what he always does. His "Long Live The Chief" track reminded his audience just how culturally proud and politically savvy he was, and the album it rode in on was pretty irresistible. Now Jidenna's headed to the motherland with '85 To Africa,' and he does a great job at focusing the riches of the diaspora through the filter of hip-hop, especially when the Nigerian native cuts across the Caribbean and harks to afrobeats with a Mr. Eazi feature. He hit our NYC studio and dropped blistering versions of "Sou Sou" and "Zodi." Watch the chief in action.

One of the fewest lyrics out here.. More words and meaning than chorus... Love him.. I looked up the word Zodi & now the song makes more sense to me... Zodi doesn't mean zodiac but it does have to do with the dust of the universe that absorbs light from the sun and re-radiates it as thermal radiation... Love this song... Also not looking to for the signs of approval in the sky but he is showing you he wants you...

@@lsk1448 No, West Africans especially Nigerians (which is Jidennas origin and where he draws his African rights and context) have no relation to East Africans. They are almost foreign to Us. Specifically speaking as a Nigerian. When our artist Davido did a collab with a Tanzanian artist and i think also a Kenyan one it was so surprising to us. It is definitely something new of collaborating culture and entertainment with them. Talk less about the Ethiopians, Somalis, and Sudanese...I just found out they exsisted 6 yrs ago, I like their culture but we don't know each other. It would make zero sense for our artist who uses our language and cultural references to refer to the East..specifically a nickname of a girl's name that originates from their country...that is completely left field. It is just a happy coincidence, so let's be clear, we no know them. End of.
