Do yourself a favor and get a shorter stiffer rod. 5’ with a baitcaster and tighten up your drag. First ten sec is usually when they get off and the runs come later when the fish gets closer to the boat. I always want super tight drag and back off after 10 sec or so in prep for the run.

@@erickendell5437 yea I love his channel. I watch it on the regs and he’s a good fisherman. This is no knock. But that loose drag and rod choice for 70fow is simply wrong. Everyone should be open to constructive criticism. That’s how we all get better. I wanna see some hogs on the vids.

My first year guiding on the East Arm of Great Slave Lake in the NWT, I had a young child guest who brought his little kids closed faced reel just like that one you had at the end there! I don’t know what lb test of line he had on it but I was fearful of him using it & tried suggesting using mine but he wouldn’t and insisted on using his child’s pole. Just after shorelunch I watched his pole double over and he was struggling to hold on so his dad takes over. Spoiled him to the end of his line 3 times, massive head thrashes. Took a lot of patience and careful boat handling skills but we managed to net a 32 lb lake trout! When I told my fellow guides that night what happened and the pole it was caught on they were dumbfounded! Biggest fish I saw in my boat was 42 lbs and it was caught on a walleye rod! Strange things / coincidences happen when you go fishing and I could go on and on with some of the things I’ve seen and done while guiding in the remote Northern Canadian wilderness! Good times! Looking forward to seeing you hook into a beast here soon Justin!

@@JustinJenkenAssortedMeats Yeah, I felt bad for that 32 lb fish being caught on that kids rod & having to finesse it into the boat. Puts a lot of stress on those big fish but took my time reviving it and it swam away

Hope your bilge pump stays running good because it appears those welds on the new hull are apparently not water tight. Lol. Obviously you could add a stinger hook to that tube but like you said it helps weed out the dinks. Looking forward to more content of those big momma Lakers!
@JustinJenkenAssortedMeats2 жыл бұрын
Loool it's not even the weld that's leaking it's a couple stubborn ass rivets!
@gunnarbuz2 жыл бұрын
Some one needs to put a box with a spot lock capable trolling motor for you on one of those ships! but for real those tubes are great, got my first real "big"(to me) laker on one at 14lb 6oz 34.5". Have you tried using a tube jig head with a shorter shank hook so when you rig the tube there is about a half in bubble in front of the jig head in the tube? It makes it have a crazy darting swimming action and do big circles like a rattle bait
