The only real chance you have to escape Ai is during the Illusion, once your on the boat you are screwed. If you do enough studies about spirits and such, you could very well escape the illusion back into the real world, given that you had your faculties(as a good deal of her victims do not get free movement and such). The covenant states that you must be immediately banished to hell, so escaping means that you are free, until your name is submitted again. Just keep this on your mind.

wrong. none can escape. if someone wants you damned, even one, you are damned. the only way to avoid it at all, is to already be dead (yes, this is confirmed canon. someone in the show only escaped because they died before the string could be pulled. you cannot banish someone who no longer exists.)

@@wamengxiong0409 ironically season 2 ended with the one time Ai Enma refused to comply with sending someone. we see her facade begin to crack as early as season one note the difference in tone when she damns a known innocent. she's trying not to cry as she said the words, knowing there *is* no sin this nurse is going to hell for. and in one instance, Rin personally stalled for time so that the would be damned would kill herself to spare her daughter the damnation of matricide. itsgould be noted the mother damned the father and *knew* she was still damned even if she was saving the soul of her daughter. her last words were "because *i'm* the only one who needs to suffer, not you*!" before jumping off a freeway bridge then comes the one old man who made it to heaven. we know there is a heaven only because he made it there. because of the nature of heaven, a human soul, once there, can never be damned. in the eyes of sin, the soul does not exist. the old man dies peacefully, of old age, ready to see his wife again, and while we never see heaven (we're not dead), it is implied he did. the assistants are going out of their way to make sure old age happens first, one second before the thread is pulled, the man dies, and the client is told his contract is void. he cannot damn someone who has already faced their final judgment. and of course, as you mentioned, s2. the one time Ai Enma refuses to carry out a contract. the devil had been lying the whole time about her parents, as you cannot use the contract on those who are already facing their final judgement. she went in the child's place, the girl who damned him took Ai'splace

They just pass through the gate as a portal. Where the portal leads depends on whether they're a good or bad person. It's subtly implied, but the innocents in this show do not suffer for all eternity, Ai just thinks they do because they devil is torturing her.

That's the only way this universe can work either way. At least the innocents don't get condemned to be tortured and suffered for all of eternity. The fact a Heaven exists for good people means that a benevolent God exists in this show, meaning he wouldn't allow innocents to get screwed over because of someone else's actions. The only thing that makes the Link bad is that revenge is wrong.

Well Makoto wasn't truly a bad guy, but more exactly a victim of his own actions... For a lot of time he used to be a nice guy that wasn't popular with the girls, who only gained value in their eyes because he became someone's else boyfriend and could be snitched away, the more he became a Casanova the more desirable he becamed... So in a sense he was also a victim of this whole affair and the actions he committed as well as perceptions of others...in fact I do consider he would desire to go there because he fully believed he deserved it, thought in my opinion its unfair to blame only him as he could had as easily been a positive character as he became an evil one. School day was a refreshing twist to the whole anime harem trope, which revolves around a caring young man, that cares for all of the members of his harem family, and with Shintoistic perception of adultery where all the girls are considered family, sleeping around with other members of the harem would not be seen negatively by the main wife... Shintoism doesn't have a proper marriage ritual and wouldn't see polygamy as something bad as long as they belong to the household, as the marriage ceremony is actually the ceremony of joining into the mans household and since all of the wifes are members of the household, only relations with the girls that do not belong to the household could potentially be seen as adultery, therefore Makoto's activities by itself aren't negative in the eyes of the Japanese society or Shinto philosophy, but the lack of responsibility or respect for the women and the fact he didn't form a household with them is,than again a lot of girls in these series were also using him to boster theire reputation....so?
