The reason women's clothing originally had buttons on the other side was because in the past women would have someone dress them so the buttons were put on the other side so that they were easy for the right handed helper to do the buttons up....men's clothing put the buttons the other way because they would dress themselves so the buttons were put where it was easier for right handed men to do their own buttons up....why this has not changed with the style of clothes becasue Women usually do their own buttons now I do not know....but if you are left handed women's shirts are easier than men's shirts :)
