LOL My sister had this doll back in 1987 for her birthday. I was kinda scared of it in the beginning because of the no ON/OFF switch. My Dad had eventually found out how to turn her off...etc. We still have her at my Mom's house, in OK condition ( reason: my sister stopped playing with her after watching Child's Play). I was wondering if you knew anyone who can repair these types of dolls, because Jill's arms are broken; they won't go up and down anymore. This really brings back memories...

She rewinds the tape to the beginning at the end of the program. When it's finished rewinding, Jill shuts herself off. I assume they did it that way to keep Jill from running constantly and draining the batteries even faster.

+drftgy67 a q&a video would be a good idea. i think she said in other videos that she had a teddy ruxpin when she was growing up, and ppl tend to have happy memories of their favorite toys (kids from the 60s love chatty cathy, kids from the 80s love teddy ruxpin, etc), so that probably has something to do with it.. there were also different "generations" of teddy ruxpin, plus she has a store display one, another that she gave grubby's blue eyes, etc, but it would be cool to hear her answers in her own words.

I used to have a Jill doll! I sold her with the original box and her Candy Striper outfit + tape. She is basically ten pounds. When I first bought her, the hair was really gross so I had to wash it and a good trick on how to re-curl her hair is using heated foam curlers. She looked good as new!

I beg to differ really. The groundbreaking technology that was present in Jill at the time, has more or less become the standard for electronic toys now, minus the tapes of course! The FurReal Friends range of toys is a shining example, with many toys displaying movable arms, turning and even tilting heads, and even voice recognition; all of which started with Jill. And with today's technology, we've gotten to a point where we can get all these motions on just 4 C or even AA batteries, a huge fraction of the power needed for Jill!

hello there. I'm a totally blind gentleman who absolutely loves this sort of what I like to call gentle 80's stuff. Back when toys were better and everything was generally better all the way around being an 80's kid myself. I have corky and love him. How ever did you find out how old they all were, Jill being 13 Etc? I've always wondered about that, and always thought she was about 10 or 11, but this sounds like it's more accurate. That doll’s the joint back in the late 80’s because I remember watching the original ad which had the animated doll working with a group of girls back then & today some people still may have the doll but the replacement part may become hard to come by when it comes to restoring this wonderful doll here .

This is more of a personal animatronic than a doll which for it's time is still amazing. This would have been out when kids were obsessed with Showbiz/Chuck E. Cheese so have the possible opportunity to own something like tte theater animatronics but tailored made for more interactivity would have been something.

How has Playmates not made a new Playmates Jill doll nowadays? Someone should suggest that to them to release a newer version of her! Just imagine it, with the new technology now a days, she could move, talk and be really realistic and work a lot better! But of course, nothing can beat this old 80’s version of Jill. :)

I feel that if Playmates partners up with Tiger Electronics, they could make something good. They have a knack for making pretty advanced stuff for fairly reasonable prices (see their FurReal pets line). Something like Jill would fit right in to the modern toy market, with the right tech!

I think Blue showed this in another video - Jill says she's going to take a break to rewind the tape, then ready to play again. Not sure if she just starts playing again after rewinding or waits for you to speak/reinsert the tape.

It's pretty loud, you can hear it going as the tape is playing without much effort. It's not loud enough to be annoying, though. I usually just turn up Jill's volume to drown it out.

I actually think the voice recognition compares what Jill said to what you say. So she's actually listening to the tape while it's saying "do the quiz or fashion show" and if she hears something similar to either of those, she knows what to play :)

I have a jill doll and I'm having some trouble getting her to start. I also took a look at the light and noticed that the light was not sticking up. So I took a flash light to look and see where the light was and noticed it was sideways and red. Is yours like that? Thanks.

I remember back in 2013 I was in contact with someone we both know, who I won't name because of reasons, but he had a Jill doll and would play the cassettes to me during Skype calls. One tape I think he had was Jill's Sleepover and it had a very beautiful song on it, the song was so beautiful that it would send tingles through my face every time I heard it. Do you have any other tapes for Jill? If so, would you consider uploading more songs from them please?

I have three tapes for Jill actually: the one she came with in the box that's just titled "Jill," "Jill's Slumber Party," and "Jill's First Job." She is actually acting up at the moment, I need to figure out what's going on before I make any more videos of her. It seems like she isn't routing power properly or something, I think a capacitor or wire might be going bad somewhere.

I'm surprised there's no power switch, I would have expected a power switch similar to the one on the original Teddy Ruxpin, but oh well, taking out the tape obviously turns the power off. I second this idea. Mine has been recently repaired, but she is no longer speaking. She is making this very bizarre gargling noise. The guy who repaired her says that the tape head has come out of alignment so she is only reading the data track which is the track for her eyes and arms and everything to move. We are trying to get together so that he can fix her here at the house rather than risk going over all of the bumpy potholes in my road. If that is all it’s gonna take to knockthe tape head out of alignment, I certainly don’t want to risk doing that again.

@Tehya Brown hi! Yes, I have heard of Fidget Friends. I don’t have one yet though. I will probably look around for one second hand. They are fascinating little robots As far as Jill, LOL! Yeah. She is… Odd and extraordinarily frustrating but the unicorn of all mechanical dolls. Playmates toys nearly bankrupt themselves creating her. She is still gurgling. I was finally able to get the repair guy over here and he did fix her. I sat there and watched him work for like two hours. She was working perfectly before he left. He tried multiple tapes and she was doing just fine. later that night I put a tape in her and she’s gargling again. *Sigh* I don’t know. She’s frustrating the snot out of me and being a typical teenager. I guess I will open her up and fiddle with the tape head again. I don’t like going near that thing. It is mounted on a bracket that has only one side and I don’t want to put stress on the Metal by moving it around too much.

I have read that the production of the Jill doll almost ruined Playmates . Back in the days she was arround $200 , I'm sure that would be nowadays over $600 maybe even over $800.
