This figure skating season still had the compulsory figures round. This is very important to consider. It was the final season to have the figures, and then the sport changed forever.

She fought though this performance, but I thought the spins were pretty weak - she didn't hold the positions long, and she didn't rotate very quickly at all.

The marks were still too high for her performance. It was an insult to Midori Ito and to the sport.

Alex SDB Midori unfortunately didn’t perform well in the figures and, if I remember rightly (I haven’t watched it again to check so I stand corrected I’d I’m wrong) she made a mistake in the short programme. She was too far behind to win. It was a competition of 3 parts back then. But even Jill herself acknowledged that on the free programme alone Midori should have been the winner

Alex SDB I’d say they were about right. She did 4 clean triples, stepping out of a 3S 5.7/5.8 for technical seems fair - she also did a 1 foot axel and a 2F with her hands on her hips which was hard back then. Her movements around the ice were well timed to the music and her hand and arm movements were beautiful and natural, nothing looked forced and she looked like she was enjoying herself, smiling through the performance, 5.8/5.9 for artistic also seems fair if you look at the marks for other performances around that time they fit well and are not out of place

@@victoriagill3337 Take the marks of Midori Ito's free skate, her content, quality and what she successfully executed, and then take a look and consider what Jill Trenary completed and her marks.
