I personally see this as the worst kind of feeling when it comes to losing someone in the family. No, I'm not calling Stephen heartless, god no. When my grandmother passed away, I felt extremely something similar, while doing my duty as her grandson and respectfully attending her funeral amidst folks I'd never seen before, behind a father who wasn't always there. And as I stood there over her sleeping body, I realized that I never got to know her very well. I had seen her many times over the course of my life, but actually getting to know her and having a close bond was something I never got to have. She had been in and out of the hospital multiple times in the last few years of her life, so the only thought I had was, "She's finally at peace." I say this is the 'worst' kind of feeling because the time spent mourning asks more of the question of 'what could have been' rather than feeling grief and looking back at old memories. Which has made me feel awful because a part of me feels heartless for thinking that way when I probably have no reason to think like that. My condolences to your Mama Georg, Stephen. I can't imagine what it's like to be in that position of 'being alone', and the harrowing thoughts that that entails.

My grandma passed away Easter of 2009, when I was eight years old. I saw her relatively often, but due to my age I didn't really speak to her much. I didn't speak to many family members at such a young age, and the big age gap between us (I'm the youngest of the grandkids on both sides of my family) made that even harder. On top of that, I didn't like the house she lived in as it was very old and crooked and filled with bugs, as well as my grandma's doll collection which always scared me, so I tended to not like visiting them. That house is still around today, still just as creepy as my grandpa from 1925 still lives there and has kept the collection intact. So what you're describing is pretty much the same thing I experienced: while I was very struck at the time it happened, it was simply because I had never experienced a loss before, but looking back, what I felt wasn't sadness because I lost someone near and dear to me. I barely knew her.

Stephen, we may not have seen your uncle on the vlog, but we've seen your mom since the very start. And we know her. She's an incredible wife and mother with an unbelievably kind and generous soul, and it's clear that anyone who she loves knows exactly how loved they are by her. We may be strangers on the internet who will most likely never get to meet this wonderful woman, but we love her regardless. And to hear that she has suffered this great heartbreak, well, we're heartbroken too. I know I cried for her loss. If we could bake her a million sweets and give her endless hugs, we would. We can't erase the hurt she feels, but maybe, just maybe, we can give just a touch of her magic back and help hold her up during this time with kind words and prayers. We love you, Mama Georg.

With those stories I feel that a part of them is still alive. Everyone has their own way of grieving though, there is no wrong way to be sad, no right way to mourn. I have no memories of him, did not know his name until today, but because he was alive and he matters to others, I too have a feeling of loss for this man. I am but a stranger, but I can not lie and say that a life I didn't know existed doesn't matter to me, because from what I know to be true is that the actions we make affect more than just those immediately around us. I understand how your mother feels like she is alone, and isolated from her home. It's so difficult to be separated from her immediate family in this way, especially considering the current global situation. But she has so many people in her life who adore her, with the online community on top of that. As soon as I saw the title of the vlog, I immediately knew that something was going on. Just a few days ago, I recently learned that my aunt’s dog passed away. He had quite a few health problems so they knew it was coming, but it’s still a shock to everyone. I had many good memories of him, too. I’m OK, BTW. I just want you and your mom to know that I’m right there with you and we can get through this together. I’m so sorry for your loss and please give my condolences to your mom. I cant even fathom the pain your mom feels, my grandmother went through something similar...sure she has her siblings but she really doesn’t talk to them much or like them(all that much) But her mom and her were super close, she always would visit twice a year despite her health. She spent 3 months in her moms town, and ultimately she passed on. Even now my grandmother still hurts about it and i can feel it. Man, Stephen, I'm so sorry for your mom But also I sort of understand how both of you feel. I'm an adopted only child. My mom has a whole bunch of siblings and I have many cousins but I'm not close with them at all. My dad has a brother and one niece. When my parents are gone, I'll be alone. I have no children and no spouse, and there will be literally no family anymore. It truly sucks losing family. I lost my dad this year to a heart attack. April 15th He lived 1000+ miles away and I couldn't be with him. Then when I thought It couldn't get worse my gpa passed on the same day my dad passed just one month later the 15th. I was my Gpa's full time caregiver for a year and half. He had dementia for the last 2 years and many other problems due to working hard his whole life supporting his family and friends. When I saw the title I instantly thought of my GPA. His name is James but jim to everyone who knew him. R.I.P

Mama Georg- a lot of love and well wishes during this difficult time. I come from a big family, especially on my mom's side. And we haven't had many losses, but we'd lost 2 of my mom's 11 siblings. One was only last year and it was rough for a lot of us. Hopefully some sort of rememberance can be done to pay proper tribute. From that last experience, it was sad, but also healing for everyone to give their own stories about my aunt. Inevitably all of the siblings went up to say a few words. Some stories were a show of her character, but there were some good laughs too.

I am so sorry for your loss, Mama Georg. I can relate to that feeling of being alone; I lost my mom 14 years ago, and my dad passed away in April, and I'm not close to any of my extended family. I am very much alone, and it is a strange feeling. But, you have a loving husband, a great son, and a wonderful daughter-in-law close to you, and no doubt support from extended family and other community as well, and I am glad that you have that. This will be difficult and it will continue to hurt, but you can get through it. Stephen, my condolences to you as well. Losing family is rough, even when you're not close. Also thank you for taking on those responsibilities and doing what you can to help out. When my dad passed away, I was the one who dealt with 90% of all the practical things, with help from his long-time partner. It no doubt made the process even more difficult than it already was, because I had to put my mourning on hold until things like the funeral and inheritance and legal things had been dealt with. I'm glad to know that your mom doesn't have to face all of that on her own. Sending much love and good vibes (are KZbin vibes a thing? can it be a thing?) your way.
