@@thomasb.5643 I think it is somewhere in this episode that Sir Desmond tells Sir Humphrey that he never reads the FT, just carries it under his arm as part of the 'uniform'. That's the reason for the look to Sir Humphrey who almost certainly cooked up this situation in order to get Sir Desmond the extra floors on his building depite Hacker having stated that high rise skyscrapers were no longer to be allowed, or some such.

@@johnking5174 Hardly. Paul Eddington is by far the better actor in Yes Minister and Yes PM. Sir Nigel Hawthorne is a brilliant actor yes, but he is better in his other roles. The BAFTA award is just not a good judge, nor are any of the half a million other such awards
@Shadowman4710
@Shadowman4710 3 жыл бұрын
@@perperson199 I think it really had more to do with the part itself. Sir Humphrey got the best lines and moments of the show, and Hawthorne was ideal in the role. Eddington, who probably was a more subtle actor had the harder job but it was also far less flashy and organizations are drawn to flashy performances. Even Hawthorne said that Eddington should have won at least half the awards and I think most fans of the show would agree with that.

When I was gate duty a woman never had the proper Identification so I told her very respectfully that I can’t let her in (I worked on an establishment that housed the UK’s Nuclear Submarines). She then went mental at me telling me that her husband is a lieutenant commander and that I will pay for this. It was pissing down with rain so i told her that she can either stand inside in the warm and wait for me to help her get clearance or she can stand outside in the pissing rain all night 🤣

Nah, they were never truly held to account (in a strict and consistent way at least). It's just more obvious these days. Back in _ye olden days_ our dear leaders just didn't have as many eyes & ears on them or as many mouths yapping at them. Perhaps it's the case that because of that increased scrutiny the ones with something resembling shame left and the ones we have left are the most shameless drama queens.
