I honestly don’t know who can take Dave Meltzer rating for matches seriously, the guy didn’t give Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 5 stars or higher but he gave Cody Rhodes vs Sammy Guevara 5 stars when the match at best was maybe 4 stars if even that , Meltzer is a joke at rating matches.

I take his match ratings as seriously as I take my own match ratings. At the end of the day it’s just one guy’s subjective opinion. The problem is the IWC coalesces around his opinion unlike any other art form. There are movie critics and art critics and music critics, but no one critic is the end all be all gatekeeper of what is good and what sucks quite like what Dave is for wrestling.

Cornette has his issues, but remains steadfast in his belief that either Meltzer tweets about him, or fans of Cornette do to get a rise out of him. There are things to like about any wrestling product, but people can't seem to just leave well enough alone and admit, "I don't like it. I want to like it, but I don't." Meltzer always seems to act very...antagonistic on Twitter. That certainly doesn't help. I have said it for years, Dave is not a wrestling fan, he is a gymnastics fan. In August of 2022, as I write this, Will Ospreay has more five star matches THIS MONTH than Kurt Angle and CM Punk have COMBINED. Sometimes, Corny is overly hard on AEW. But, that is only his opinion. Dave has the opposite opinion, and is over-the-top in his praise of AEW. The difference is, if you say to Jim, "Well, I disagree. I like that," he will say, "Well, for the types of people who like that kind of thing, that is the thing they like." With Dave, he thinks it is fact. His opinions are not just preferences, they are facts in his mind. If you say to Dave, "You gave X match five stars, but to me, it was not as good as Y match," he will attack you on Twitter as being an idiot who doesn't understand the business. It's entertainment, Dave, we all don't like the same things. I like low scoring baseball games. I love a 1-0 pitcher's duel. My son likes a lot of offense and loves a 11-10 game with five homeruns. We don't argue about it, because it is a preference, and we both love baseball. It is the same with wrestling. It is ok to not like things, but Dave takes it so personally.

Dave lost his place a long time ago. The Observer was great in the 80s and 90s when there was no Internet. I can't exactly pinpoint when in the last year or two Jim said F it & stopped holding back on letting Dave have it but you could hear the the restraint go away more and more every time Dave brought Jim up himself or one of his listeners would ask a question involving Jim to get Dave to mention him. I've never been a regular listener to Meltzer but you have to be a little off if you're agreeing with a take Jim had on politics but you're on the opposite end of his take on wrestlers or the product they produce. Not trashing Jim or anyone on the left just that he's hit or miss equally on politics but doesn't miss often when it comes to wrestling and typically nails the bullseye

I listen to both Meltzer and Cornette and none of them is right or wrong, they just have different opinions on what they like about wrestling Cornette is more of an old school casual fan, he likes characters, promos and storylines that would appeal to anyone and doesn't like wrestling that is designed for hardcore wrestling fan that wouldn't appeal to a mainstream audience or can make wrestling look stupid from an outsider perspective aka AEW Meltzer is more of a hardcore wrestling fan, he likes wrestling matches even if they haven't been built like they would to grab more attention since he probably knows the wrestlers involved, he likes the in-ring part of wrestling and doesn't mind if casuals wouldn't be able to understand it whether you agree with Meltzer or Cornette depends on whether you're a casual or a hardcore fan

I agree, but only one side is admitting that in this argument. Jim and TGBL always say, "This wasn't for me." Jim will then go on to explain, using entertaining and colorful language, why it wasn't for him. But, Jim and I have emailed a few times, and he completely accepts that not everyone agrees with him and his style. Dave has blocked me on Twitter for pointing out that T-shirt sales at Hot Topic are not a fair way to compare popularity because Hot Topic has very few WWE shirts. He takes it very personally.

Plenty of talented people get fired, he just happens to get fired after not making money. SMW made no profit and it had Rick Rubin's backing. NWA was and still is small time and he couldn't stop taking shots at other promotions out of some weird insecurity. ROH he pushed all the wrong people, including Haas & Benjamin and The Headbangers, and tanked their business saying they had "nothing" for The Young Bucks, who then went on to be draws for the promotion. He had a good mind in the 80s and perhaps a bit of the 90s but he could not keep up. He was also responsible for not using better infrastructure for ROH PPVs, turning down the help from Gabe Sapolsky, who actually had experience with it. I'm sure you'll ignore this, but you're hero ain't fucking shit and if he ran another promotion it would be out of business in a year. And how's his prediction for AEW being out of business going? He said April 2020. Yiiiiiikes.
