Whether you are an apple or an android person, this lawsuit is about free market and competition. Should the Govt win, If people like Apple Eco-System, they will still have the choice to stay in the walled garden. But it provides consumers with the most powerful thing...CHOICE.

That would depend on whether any Americans are skilled at microassembly of fairly small devices, plus willing to work in large factories for about $15-18/hr. If fast food and restaurants are having trouble finding labor and employees, what makes you think there's tons of people wanting to work in assembly factories? BTW, the current unemployment rate is 3.9%, hovered between 3.7 down to 3.4 back to now 3.9%, which isn't very bad considering, and down to 2.5% in states like California which is actually doing pretty well. Lots and lots of jobs still out there unfilled too.

This laws suit is shameful. Sacrificing the privacy, user experience and distracting one of the most important tech companies at the pivotal intersection of AI for what??? Spotify and Epic games are not as rich as they could be?? Echoes of the Chinese crackdown on big tech companies and look where that got them.

Choose is the only option. Any company that willingly makes services worse because the 1s and 0s don't come from an apple product should take a look in the mirror. They make good stuff. They are also anti consumer and anti repair. That's wrong.

Apple has become the 800lb gorilla and shows no sign of stopping. A 30% tax on all monetary transactions on the App store is crazy. It's their store, but let's be reasonable.

Incorrect. It’s only 30% after you make $1million in revenue, which most small to mid developers don’t. I have not heard one person who’s against Apple actually understand the business that Apple does 🤦🏾‍♂️.

It’s crazy? It’s standard across almost ALL AppStores, including Android, Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, etc. But for some reason with Apple it’s crazy? Have you complained about ANY of the others? Oh, and it’s 15% for anything under a million dollars a year. Which is imminently reasonable considering you’re getting access to more than a billion customers, most lucrative AppStore on the market, and a shitload of distribution and development tools, maintenance, etc.

Purposely making/keeping communication with non-Apple devices more difficult is anti-competitive behavior. Everyone knows what happens when a large text thread is created. It's not as benign as simply making the texts of non-Apple devices green. Kids are excluded from text threads when they don't have an iPhone because of the complications. Apple's solution? Their parents should buy them an iPhone. That's their attempt to create a monopoly through exclusion as opposed to creating a monopoly through superior products and services. That's what makes their actions illegal. Monopolies aren't inherently illegal. Underhanded, anti-competitive behaviors like the one illustrated above are.

Apple goes out of there way to make there Apps worse on products that are not Apple. I used iTunes on Windows. It was always bad vs when used on a Mac. Apple never tried to make it better. Meanwhile Google, Samsung, Microsoft, Amazon, etc work to make there apps work with each other just fine. The reason Apple will never grow with Triple A gaming is because they are the only company to use there metal API. Meanwhile everyone else uses close to the same coding which opens up cross platform.

As a parent, I have lived this. My children have androids and there were several times they were left out of certain communications with school groups or friend group chats simply because they were not in with apple. They wanted Apple just for the inclusivity because they were being shunned and excluded. That practice by Apple had nothing to do with it being a better product, the decisions made there had everything to do with exclusion to drive peer pressures and a bottom line and it was wrong. The solution has been there for years now, it is called RCS and Apple refused to implement this INDUSTRY STANDARD. For the record, I saw this anti-competitive behavior and took the time to educate my children about it. Not sure it worked. Pretty sure when they are adults and can afford it, they will go with Apple just due to the trauma and wanting to be included. I am hoping this case brings change so that they feel like they will have a CHOICE.

​@@provoking3449 There simply is no way to make SMS/text message as safe, encrypted and convenient as apple messages. Making the messaging of iOS the same as text with a non-Apple phone would drag the experience down for all Apple users. For example, if I am on a group message with some colleagues and want to call one of them on video and talk about it and then add another person when I need their input, it simply can’t be done over SMS. The messages of the non-Apple users needs to be a different color so I know not to try any of those advanced things with them. Also, the messages themselves are free, so when I am away on travel, they are going over WIFI as opposed to paying out of the country charges when messaging. The green tells me it is going to cost extra when sending a message from Asia. I used to keep my child on Android and used an iPhone for myself. It got so irritatingly inconvenient compared to calling colleagues that I started buying the new iphone a little bit earlier than I normally would and handling the old ones off to my wife and kid. Good news is they are all working 6 years later and it has been really good value for money.

​@@evacody1249 Microsoft onenote and powerpoint don’t work great on Apple devices compared to Microsoft tablets. I am a heavy OneNote user on iPad and it is not a great experience. Each company puts in the max effort on its own platform and offers a little something on the other side as a peace offering to users and likely doesn’t make much money on that lower grade version. Can’t expect a Toyota mechanic to be the best at fixing a Ford, right?

Our wise government is not serious about suing Apple but they had to do something to make. The Europeans know that we're on the ball and that we're not letting apple cheat them out of anything. It's more what we might call grandstanding. Don't worry about it, don't mean nothing! 😊

there is no law saying, that the competition needs to have the same access to all your services as yourself as long as there are alternatives around. its ridicolous to say that apple has a monopoly in smartphones. and in apple tv? and in apple music? email? icloud backup? its just ridicolous. and where is the consumer harm? i do not feel harmed at all. yes i'd love that the apple services packages are a little bit less expensive, but thats not a monopoly. i could cancel the services and just other ones. would they be as tightly integrated into the iphone? no, but who says this must be the same? DOJ have lost their minds.
