I don't agree with this. $1000 is an amount many if they save up can afford. And they bring up the Berkshire Hathaway example. They neglected to mention it has class B shares (which are essentially the same thing) which trade for $220. Stock market is not rigged towards the big buys in fact its almost the opposite, the stock market has made investments that were previously only available to wealthy investors and big time institutions - available to the little guy. The stock market is the great equalizer

Yes, 1000 isn’t a lot, but you don’t just have one position, you would have more diversification, moreover many beginners will trade products such as options which cover a hundred shares, so now it’s 100000. What’s good is that more brokers are offering fractional shares.

"Little guy should not think life caters to him" - Cramer is basically saying that everything should not cater to the big players in the Market. But somehow you interpret leveling the playing field as catering to the little guy. That's like saying that if you got into a conflict with a professional MMA fighter in a bar, you wouldn't think it'd be reasonable for someone to hand you a weapon or to even have your friends join you if that MMA fighter decides to take a swing at you. You're standing there saying "I'm not fighting a professional fighter by myself, without a weapon". If someone sitting nearby just told you "beat him, don't complain", that person would be an idiot. Or that's like a team of guys robbing a bank with machine guns and all you're carrying is a knife. They don't bring all that gear for no reason. They want to make sure that the situation is as rigged in their favor as possible. Anyone who says "don't complain" is offering no sensible solutions. The people most likely to say that in that situation are the bank robbers themselves and their hostages with Stockholm syndrome.

There are different methods of valuation on wether to Buy/Sell the stock. Investors use a combination of valuations to figure out if a stock is under/overvalued. The prices do not come out of no where like this dude is saying. Investors use valuation methods such as DDM,FCFF, FCFE , P/E ratio to find the price of a stock. Prices don’t just appear out of nowhere or being targeted to prevent ordinary people from investing.

Higher prices for stock doesn't mean its rigged. For example, Berkshire Hathaway Class A shares trade for $337,491/Share. One of the many reasons they don't split, is because they want to keep the uneducated investor out. Warren Buffet doesn't want people that don't know what they are doing to day trade/short-term trade his stock. If the share price for a class A stock is that much, a lot more people would at least try to make a more informed investment decision and holder for longer peiods. ALSO, it doesnt matter if google is at $1,000 or $100 a share. The return on the investment is still the same. If you invest $10,000 into google and your return is 10%, you've made $100. Whether you own 100 shares or 10 shares is irrelevant.

I think that that was pretty on point. The stock market isn't rigged, however, in the short term it can be manipulated... But yeah longer term or even year by year it isn't. They're to many different parties involved and like anything else the market as a whole determines the price of something/stock.

Well how will we benefit from stock appreciation if a company keeps it's price per stock low other than benifiting from div. yield?
@sc358.4 жыл бұрын
When a stock splits, you have more stocks. Example: Market Cap $100 billion Total Shares Outstanding 100 thousand Stock Price $1,000.00 So then split each share 10 for 1. There are now 1 billion shares outstanding. You now own 10 $100.00 shares instead of 1 $1,000.00 share. It does nothing for making the company more valuable (easier for people to buy it so you may see some undue appreciation). The economics of the business drive the share price over a longer period of time. The stock market being an auction driven market along with other factors not driven by the actual fundamentals of the business can allow the stock to be priced way under/over in the short term. If you were to call up the same broker on your personal residence over a years period, then chances are it wouldn't change dramatically, say maybe 40% on occasions from trough to peak like many stocks tend to do on a regular basis. Google any public funeral home service businesses an look at the price in December vs today. Now ask yourself did human mortality dramatically just change? Pretty silly... We want to find unreasonably cheap businesses we can understand, that have low risk. The market gives you them every now and again and these types of bets, on average, provide very good returns.

Why do exchanges even require you to buy full shares? It should just be like cryptocurrencies where things are divisible to several decimal places. People will argue that people shouldn’t be investing in individual stocks if they can’t afford to buy a single share of a $2,000 stock, but that isn’t the point, it’s technologically feasible for us to buy 1 millionth of an asset, so exchanges should facilitate it.
