Jim James has purely and simply taken his art through a transcendence into a new reincarnation. His performing art alone should be the reason for this video to have 0 dislikes, but his entire album is a conscious expanding piece of beauty! Gotta love him

Bro, his fake playing of the sax should be the reason this has more dislikes than likes.

I've never heard of this guy until I recently watched Dylan's Basement Tapes on Showtime. And I have to say that I was very impressed with how diverse he is in his writing. He's definitely one of the better artists out there right now.

His voice is like the hauntingly beautiful, lonesome wail of a coyote caught in a steel trap on a moonlit night. Perfect pitch. Primal. This new stuff is edgy. A true artist.

I first learned of him from a song on The Leftovers S2 E6, State of the Art.....I love his voice. It is so relaxing and really touches me. He's such a cool guy and meditates and one video shows him playing at a concert with others who also do transendental meditation, which he's done since 2009. Maybe that's why his voice has a calming effect on my.

Loved it until the sax solo. The first part with his back to us is live, the rest is a recording. You can't do circular breathing on sax, meaning that when Jim opens his mouth to breath there shouldn't be any sound. Am a wind player myself so... why fake this guys, just get a stand in, no big deal we know you are godlike! Blessings.
@jlac96710 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing
@MartyMoriarty10 жыл бұрын
***** I'll concede the circular breathing, which can also be done on a piece of waterpipe, but ever heard of miming when using a microphone. Easy if you are mixing in your own sound on stage. No great beef though. Have a great new year. :)
@TheRyanUnser9 жыл бұрын
it's totally possible to circular breath on saxophone, he's not doing it here though. the sax solo is indeed just the recording off the album. I'll echo the "hire a horn player" sentiment

Came here to ask this. Thanks for clarifying. That's such a shame....

I'm even hearing that as a midi keyboard sax patch, not a pre-recorded real instrument take. The vibrato stays at a constant rate and amount - the timbre is just weird. I was thinking it might have sounded like that in the live show also and supposed to be a weird art decision he made. I don't know. The rest of the performance was awesome though.

Cransworth I was really disappointed and I haven't been able to listen to this album the same ever since. Call me petty but it's a major put-off.
@ShikuPeePony8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I feel the same way. I was just listening to his new album and was enjoying it until I saw this. Not only does he pretend to play an instrument, he's really borrowing WAY too much from the excellent band, "The Real Tuesday Weld" during the fake playing...
@greenbaydahg11 жыл бұрын
lol I wouldn't expect it from someone like Jim James, but I'm skeptical. I noticed when a note was still being held when he takes a breath. hmmm... Great Song.
@dylaniog71627 жыл бұрын
i love jimmy boi and was also upset until i thought about the fact that the sax is mic'd. you could use something to increase the release such as a reverb when the sound is mic'd. if he isn't using reverb, then he probably faked the whole thing.
@cozywon11 жыл бұрын
haha, it looks like he's going through the motion, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt...

Don't like it . A mix of old melodies from the eighties. Just very depressing and annoying . Is he trying a kinda jazz flavour. Anyways I thought it was shite
