Merlin said there is no going back but look what happened to Jim when Claire brought him back and not only that but to his current human form again cause the only way to reverse the half-troll spell is with shadow magic and he was wrong

If I'm not mistaken, Merlin didn't have much knowledge of the dark magic that Claire and Morgana master. Also, Claire resurrected Jim Lake, I don't know how that factors into her statement, but there it is.
