FightHype's Sean Zittel recently caught up with world-renowned commentator Jim Lampley, who had a lot to say about the impressive performance of newly-crowned undisputed welterweight king Terence Crawford after his dominant 9th round stoppage of former champion Errol Spence Jr. You don't want to miss what he had to say about that and much more. Check it out!

He's overrated fury as much as I love fury thats the truth. The problem is people think to beat fury you need size. That is undoubtedly the wrong approach. Speed footwork IQ beats fury. Usyk beats fury and that why fury is running from him. Fans are using the same language they used for spence vs crawford when defending fury. Usyk will outclass him. Fury knows it and that's why he's running. He makes outrageous demands and usyk agrees to them and then fury still turns the fight down. 😂

Bud might just beat Floyd. He definitely has some things better than Floyd.🤷🏽‍♂️I heard Spence gave Floyd a black eye and showed Floyd who he was. So maybe Bud might do the same if not worse, although that was an out of shape old Floyd even if Bud fought a prime Floyd, Floyd might get touched by Bud. Who knows tho definitely would be a great fight.

Floyd once he beat Dela Hoya. It was all about the most amount of money with the least amount of risk. He literally fought Robert Guerrero and Andre Berto. I'm not saying he didn't beat some really good fight is cuz he did but he was never going to challenge himself he never moves up the 154 he could have fought Laura he could afford Paul Williams he could have fought Sergio Martinez he did not fight any of them triple G's manager literally said he sent an email to Floyd Mayweather asking about a matchup he never got a response according to him. While all true, the argument is could the student be better than the master? Of course there's the advantage that Bud had Floyd to learn from... but hypothetically who would win if they both fought in their primes? There can never be a factual answer but my money would be on Floyd via decision. As quick as Crawford is, prime Floyd was quicker. Also Floyd was smarter imo with better defence, and had enough power to get the attention of his opponent, while having a solid chin himself

Errol Spence and Floyd Mayweather are two completely different fighters. One comes in straight lines throwing a stiff jab, who is flat footed with no head movement. Floyd is a different gravy to anyone Bud would have fought.

Crawford is already an all time great. It is extremely difficult to go from 135 to 147 and remain undefeated in 40 fights while becoming a 9-time world champion (1 lightweight belt, 4 light welterweight belts, and 4 welterweight belts). fury's magic gloves versus Wilder, in sparring (Nicholas Asberry), versus Christian Hammer, and his multiple failed drug tests (vs Klitschko) is his legacy.

Spence is a pressure fighter without head and lateral movement. Crawford never had to think but simply react and counter. With that being said, Spence clearly isn't the same fighter @147, I felt the weight cuts been hurting him more and more each fight. To me he looked weak during the Porter fight. Now I've always said Crawford's gifts would be the difference, and it would be a better match at 154 for Spence. You can't get in the ring with a guy like Crawford, and not be at full strength or 100%! I actually had Crawford stopping him in round 6 or 7, and I'm a Spence guy. I told my homeboy when it was announced that he can't beat Crawford at 147. Just as I think Tank and Shakur beat Haney at 135, you must be at 100% to F with guys like that.

Does he get in with someone who is just as dynamic as him and not look great? We've seen it all before. A fighter looks AWESOME one fight and ordinary the next. Floyd / Gatti | Boots / Villa | Crawford / Spence - 3 fights of rugged bruisers vs pure boxers and in each fight it was a beat down. Even as a rugged fighter, could Spence win like that at 154 (I doubt it, but Crawford can just like Floyd did)? Can Spence win like that at 160? HELL NO!. He treated Spence (before the accident) as a sparring partner. His training regimen is eons away from Crawford. He stays in shape year around and fights damn near every week. Hes training other boxers to be great, he's the most hated boxer of all time for being the greatest. Even if they're both in the prime, or Crawford in his prime and Floyd is not, Floyd winning regardless. That's just observation. When it comes to occult sciences like astrology and numerology, Crawford can only beat Floyd in a dream. No disrespect, no bias statements because I couldn't care less about both of them. Speaking the truth. I truly believe that the same 36 year old Floyd that beat Canelo on that night would not lose to anyone. The sharpness of Floyd that night and his ability to streamline information on the go in rounds was put on full display. Not to mention, Floyd’s speed at that night was no different than the 28 yr old Floyd that dominated Gatti. Crawford is an amazing counterpuncher with power and has finishing ability, but how is he going to counter a defensively sound boxer with more speed than him? He’d be playing Mayweather’s game trying to get to him like all 49 of his opponents did. Certain recency bias would tell it otherwise though. When you are a particularly great fighter and people look for the next big name to compare you to, then you’ve done something right. I won’t take it away from Crawford, as before this fight people were clamoring about how Crawford’s opposition and resume was weak, yet when he had his first premiere fight against Errol, he did what he was supposed to do. The thing is though, Floyd has been doing it for nearly the extent of his whole career. Respect to Crawford, but there is no comparison between the two.

Why do pple bring up a sparring session with Mayweather- Spence. When Floyd had just got out of jail and was out of shape…then beat on Spence months later in sparring😂..cut it out!!!

Crawford is smart. Floyd's subtle tricky tactics would be no mystery to him. It would be a good fight.

Foreman, Ali, Tyson in his prime, Lennox, Vitaly; I'd favor all those vs Fury. Otto Wallin showed that a good chin and pressure will always trouble a tall counter puncher

Jim Lampley is the Shakespeare of boxing. Easily the most eloquent man ever to call a fight. I miss this gentleman ringside so much. I'm hoping the camera shaking is not Parkinson's.

You are wrong. The same ones saying Crawford said Spence beat up Floyd in sparring and that's why Crawford would win. I mean, seriously brah. All you have to do is actually read the comments. I just read that.

You talking about a sparring when Floyd was 35 and coming out of jail. He gave Floyd good work. 23 world champions couldn’t beat but a man who Floyd better than going to beat him stuu

We miss you, Jim. You and Kellerman were in a league all your own. And Larry Merchant, too, of course. So, here's what you should: Train hard, cut weight, and make a come-back.

There’s no point in even talking about. floydys 75 and retired. T-Bud is active and making greater history. If floydy was 8 years younger, he would duck T-Bud harder than he did Pacquiao.

HBO, Jim Lampley and the rest of the HBO crew. That was the last of the golden era of boxing 😢. However, all great things come to an end unfortunately. We could talk about all these great fights. Lennox vs Fury, Vitali K vs Fury, Mayweather vs Crawford, Pacquiao vs Spence. It's no different from talking about prime MJ playing against prime Kobe and Lebron. End of the day, it's just like Biggie said. It was all a dream, nothing but a fantasy we can only imagine.
