I remember, right after the national anthem. Jim and Philis had the timing perfect. I can still hear that fueler fire off ! RIP Jim, I'm sure you and Ray Price are making passes in heaven..

Jim was an awesome person, I also know he had a thing for skateboarding I used to always ride mine in the pits and every time Jim was there he would always stop whatever he was doing and stand there and watch me do tricks.

Bloody Beauitiful work.He (and Phyllis ) deserve every tribute . They honored us every time they showed up to race. His first drag racing on blacktop was with us, and he sent me a letter of inquiry telliing me that he was sick and tired of getting busted up running dirt drags. I wish that letter were still in existence. but then, I wish Jim was still around, too The big guns of our era are silent..Jim and Elmer...but we have these honoraria. It shows love. Same to you. I had a chance to race him in the finals at Gainesville Fl. in 1979. He beat me on a hole shot. Still remember that run to this day, and the short conversation we had at the end of the track. Great man, and super racer...

Thanks Donnie, brought tears to my eyes. We witnessed a golden era in nitro Harley. I could seldom get anyone to want to go racing when we were younger, they always wanted to go to the lake, whatever. I drove, alone, many times from SD to god knows where, just to hang with dudes like Jim, I really miss those days. Godspeed Jim

Thank you for sharing. Great job. I raced Nitro Harley back in 95 and wanted to call Jim for advise. It took me a week to build up the nerve to call him fearing I would be a pain in the neck to such a busy man. When I finally did called him, he kept me on the phone for an hour with advise and small talk. He was a very nice man.

I had the Privilege to have raced the AHDRA from 1990 to 1997. With the Notorious B&M Cycles PG3. Jim and Phyllis were the best. He was usually number 1 qyalifier. So Jim and Phillis had the national anthem down. Last note they would fire off that top fuel Harley. He was always a gentlmen and a man of few words. Two things I remember Jim saying. "I don't remember all the racers I 've beaten, but i remember all the racers who have beat me. One time in Piedmont NC Jim said the only bad thing about winning every week. Was you were always last to leave the track. I was kind of a joke to the guys who when early out on Sunday and rushed out the gate to drive home. RIP Jim.

Great man and racer. Was always willing to talk and to give advise. He helped me more than anyone to take my ideas and go for it. He had a way of telling you something but leaving it for you to figure out.

Jim McClure died because the AHDRA did not adopt the engine restraint rule like the AMRA did after Bruce Lauer did a 10 foot high swan dive after his rear engine cylinder lifted and Bruce instantly died. 2 weeks later in Georgia, Jim had his rear cylinder lifted in the burn box. That cylinder hit Jim right in heart. Phyllis McClure should have not allowed Jim to race for at least 1 year after. I begged Dane Miller to knock the Florida race to an 1/8 mile. Jim went off the end of a very bumpy track with wind blown sand going across the track. Those 2 events sent Jim to an early grave. thetopcatplan.com ccrg.info

Ditto on Rich Kreider's comment ...when we saw his rig coming in , we knew we had a quality show for the folks. By the way, that fella who stuck his tongue out at the camera in the early part of the video was/is no slouch either.

I've often wondered why HD racers keep their legs spread, when going down track, it's like, they don't have foot pegs.

That fkn soundtrack doesn't fit the scenario, WTF. I seen Jim and Phyllis when he raced at Slades dirt track in Surry Virginia. Drank with him in Toano Virginia. RIP

Sorry I did not put this together. It was given to me to post. This was shown at the AHDRA banquet back when we lost Jim.

Someone blew what could have been a great vid, but all Harley exhaust noise has been obliterated by terrible jive-ass music.
