Jim Mills

Күн бұрын

Found in the original owners family after 85 years......Jim Mills recently acquired this ..."One Owner" ....Circa 1929-30 Original "No Hole" Flathead Pre War Gibson Mastertone Banjo...Style PB-3....#9467-2....a numbered "litter mate"to J. D. Crowe's "The Banger" #9467-5
In the mid 1950's Banjo Legend Mr. J. D. Crowe made a name for himself playing and recording with Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys....playing on an Original "No Hole" Flathead Style 3 identical to this banjo.....which he named ..."The Banger"...since then these particular banjos have become a "Holy Grail Banjo" for Crowe fans around the world....all trying to capture just a small part of J. D.'s tone while playing one of these super rare banjos...
For whatever reason.....during the 1st production run of the Pre War Gibson one piece flange Mastertones....a very few like this example featured a full weight high profile Flathead Tone Ring with no holes drilled....(known today as "No Hole" Tone Rings)....these early banjos also featured slightly thicker wood rims...(known today as "Fat Rim" models)....this combination although short lived created some of the most powerful Pre War Gibson Mastertone Banjos known to exist...
