I loved the doors!!! I used to live in Santa Monica and when I was12 I convinced my mom to let me go to their concert at the Santa Monica Civic. My sister was an usher there and that night she was ushering that concert. I brought my little camera and sat by myself. They were so good!!!! This is when their first album came out.

I'm so envious! I had to stay home, while my cousin got to go see The Doors, because I was only about 12... They said I was too young, and couldn't go. You're very blessed to have been able to see those legends!
@julieannemichelle2 жыл бұрын
@@mamacitabambi3558 If my sister wasn’t an usher at the Santa Monica Civic I never would have been able to go. I’m so fortunate that I got to go to that concert because I love their first album. Jim Morrison was acting appropriate and no one bugged me. I gave my son a couple pictures I took with my Kodak Instamatic camera. And that ticket was only $5.00. How times have changed. I think my biggest thrill was seeing Luther Vandross in concert. I only say this because he was my favorite r&b singer. And seeing Laura Nyro who was one of my favorites as well. Both were outstanding live!
@mamacitabambi35582 жыл бұрын
@@julieannemichelle I'm so glad your sister was an usher! And, wow, to have taken pictures of Jim and The Doors, to have, because those are exciting memories! I'm sure your son loved your gift. Lol, I remember those little cameras! Yes, Luther would have been nice to see, as well! PS I remember those ticket prices too! Yes, times have changed.

I went to pere lachaise on the 30th anniversary of jims' death, it was a pilgrimage. I was born 3 days after he died and always felt a connection, have some great photos of his grave and the surrounding area, a few years later stayed very near to the apartment where he died, did another pilgrimage there and got some nice pics with some jim graffiti. Had coffee in a tiny cafe/bar directly opposite where I imagine he frequented. Thanks for another inspiring vlog!

I especially appreciate your vlog in bringing back Jim Morrison's life that was cut short due to his drug overdose. Many thanks.

The Doors are my favorite band of the 60s. Jim's poetry is fascinating to me. As a musician and writer myself, I have always tried to write like him. He was a genius and ahead of his time. A true icon.
@tiamia71394 жыл бұрын
Really, really enjoyed this blog Jordan. It's terrible a plaque is not erected in front of that house. I grew up near West Hollywood in the late 50s through mid 60s. My sister used to see The Doors at the Whiskey before they hit it big. I saw them perform twice when I was in college. I'm almost 70 now. My oldest daughter lives in San Luis Obispo and we did a Doors "odyssey" tour of West Hollywood a few years ago and visited all the places you went to on a previous blog. She and I also traveled to Paris and left a "flame orange" (seemed the appropriate color for this mercurial and brilliant artist) rose plant on Jim's grave at Pere Lachaise ("Pear La-shez"... the "z" is pronounced). At that time, in 2013, there was only a low metal fence in front of his grave, but there was a fairly obvious plainclothes guard leaning against the "gum tree" smoking a cigarette who didn't seem bothered when we rolled over the fence to place our rose plant on top of Jim's headstone. I have arthritis and had a stone bruise in the heel of my left foot at the time, so maybe the guard took pity on this elderly, arthritic - but devoted! - Morrison fan painfully rolling herself over the fence, lol! The energy in that place is/was UNREAL. It was so moving to sit on the edge of Jim's grave and tell him how much I enjoyed his performances and think The Doors are the greatest band that ever was - and Jim the greatest, most dynamic, charismatic frontman. The guard told us later, "Madam, we see Jim's spirit here all zee time." I BELIEVE IT!! We felt a lot of weird energy in that place, the air was thick with it. My daughter and I both felt unseen eyes watching us as we strolled the cobblestone paths...strangely, it wasn't "creepy" but cool. Pere Lachaise is the most famous and elegant cemetery in all of Europe, and I personally feel Jim is buried exactly where he should be. He absolutely loved Oscar Wilde (who doesn't?). He and Pam actually stayed a few days at l'Hotel in the very room where Oscar died. Oscar's grave, and a lot of the authors Jim loved so much (Moliere, Balzac, etc.), are all buried there at Pere Lachaise. As most Morrison fans already know, Jim was very intellectual and a voracious reader of poetry and the classics. Jim would always be reading a book at the bars he visited. Jim had told his French friend Alain, as they stood in front of Oscar's grave, that Pere Lachaise was "the most beautiful place he had ever seen", and when he died he wanted to be buried there. He asked Alain to promise him that he would make sure that when he died, he would be buried at Pere Lachaise - and Alain honored his wish just a few weeks later when Jim did die in Paris. This is detailed in one of the many books I've read about Jim. Alain believed that Jim had a premonition that his death would be soon. In fact, Alain was with Jim the afternoon of his death. Alain said that Jim had called him that day and asked him to have lunch with him, and there was an urgency in Jim's voice that worried him. Alain was shocked by Jim's bloated appearance. He looked terrible, his color was off, and he was constantly coughing and short of breath. Alain told Jim that he needed to go to a hospital and that he would drive him, but Jim refused. After lunch, Jim could hardly make it up the steps to his apartment and had to sit down to catch his breath. Again, Alain said, "Jim you have to go to the hospital, there's something wrong with you!" Jim promised that he would lie down and rest and that he would be okay. That's the last time Alain saw Jim alive and he blames himself for not insisting that Jim go to the hospital. There's only a handful of Americans buried at Pere Lachaise. They're very strict about who can be buried there. You have to be a citizen of Paris or die in Paris to be buried there. Jim had only been living in Paris, in the Marais district, a very short while before his death. However, because he was an artist, specifically a poet, and Parisians revere artists, they allowed Jim to be buried there. I highly recommend anyone who visits Paris to spend an afternoon walking through Pere Lachaise, especially if you are an art or history lover. You will be absolutely amazed at the number of famous artists, writers, philosophers, scientists, musicians, performing artists, chefs, generals, inventors, etc. buried there. Jim Morrison is buried in the right place because he wanted to be remembered most as a poet, and some of his happiest hours were in those final months in Paris hanging out in Hemingway's favorite watering holes or sitting on a bench in Place des Vosges people watching and writing poetry. Paris fit Jim Morrison to a TEE! I'm sorry this is so long, but I grew up with The Doors and to this day my favorite song is "Riders on the Storm." It's a masterpiece of musicianship. Very eerily, it started raining hard - like a cloudburst - the very moment when my daughter and I visited Jim's grave. As we began to walk away, the rain stopped as suddenly as it had begun. The sun's rays created dazzling prisms on the wet cobwebs of the bushes in front of us. The whole experience was absolutely otherworldly. It's the only way I can describe it. Even my daughter leaned over and whispered, "Mom, this is really WEIRD!" 🤣
