Ron & Fez was such an inside show. You really had to hang out for a few years to really understand all the characters of hosts and interns and producers and callers and regular guests and past producers and interns. But once you were in, you were part of the club as a listener. I got hooked when I worked for Acura in 2007 and all the new cars had XM. (I also reconnected with my White Sox thru XM at the same time.) How could a voice and attitude like Ron be teamed up and best friends with a voice and guy like Fez Marie Whatley!? It sucked me in immediately. I would always hear references about Al Dukes and Billy Staples and not know anything about them. Only now, thanks to a handful of KZbinrs like yourself, I am hearing old WNEW (I believe) clips and getting to know the old Fez and the old show. Fez’s last couple years was hard to listen to, Gail is still a tough sell. I’m glad the got Earl back though. Those R&F with Earl and Dave were the best. I hate seeing greatness forever gone. Man I don't wanna sound like the high-road, or the contrarian guy, but I just never felt any frustration towards Fez in the later years; only towards Ron in fact. Like it was clear that I was hearing someone who was undergoing a continuous mental breakdown that he could not find the right help for. And yet I still enjoyed hearing him anytime he did talk. That includes all the 'angry gay' stuff which for some reason most people didn't understand was a bit. The thing that made me angry with Ron was that from the time Fez' instability and insecurities started, he disregarded this 'bad Fez' and was often sarcastic and cutting towards him even on the show, making Fez feel like his current self was not good enough (which I get to a considerable degree for a layman; you think someone's sick so they need to get better and the sick version is the bad version - but that's not how it works with mental disorders that Fez was facing). Reaffirming someone's feelings of guilt, and their insecurities about not being good enough as they are, no matter how sick they are, is going to contribute to a spiral of negative thoughts and anxiety, and the complete lack of trust in their ability to be a part of society. I was angry with Ron even, because so many times it seemed to shine through that he really only kept Fez on because of some sense of responsibility, but he seemed to do everything he could, to get Fez to want to call it quits; Either that or be 'old Fez' again. That kind of thinking will produce the opposite result. He kept putting people like Chris over, and whenever Fez managed to speak up, he either shut him down instantly, or would call overt attention to the fact of 'oh look who's showed up; come on what do you have for us' with a sarky air that would instantly put pressure on how much Fez' contribution would add to the show, as well as bring everyone's attention to his illness rather than to just take a step back, not poke at him, and show that his input would be respected so he'd start to feel safe again. The guy was holding on to his desk the entire time he was in studio. He verbalized that he was worried about 'fucking up again' every time he would speak. And Ron never did anything to make him feel safer. His answer to everything was just "well why aren't you getting better yet / Just be old Fez again / Tell me you hate me (a combination of Ron's guilt perhaps, with the fact that it could provide him with more fodder to get Fez to quit earlier)" and dismissing Fez entirely eventually, once he had an idea for what show he wanted to run with Chris and his daughter in the future. He didn't get called 'puppet master' for no reason. This wasn't just a little joke. Ron would make sure that everyone in the studio feared him to the point of NEVER ever daring to correct him on bad grammar or misuse of terms (something that he indulged in all too eagerly with people like Chris) and that extended to the call screeners. When someone got let through who would correct Ron on something - he was so bad at hiding his insecure anger over that call, that I feared for the screener's job. On the other hand, he made sure that every call insulting Fez would come right through, especially during an extended bullying session, whenever Fez was being defensive about something or had broken down. Or even on rare occasions stood up for his self-worth. It's like Ron was there to bring it right down and I partially blame him, through listening to everything they ever did, for causing Fez' heart attacks. Emphasis: Partially. Make no mistake; Ron is clever and he's funny and he has charisma as a showrunner. But he's incredibly insecure and irritable - he just lets it out in a far creepier, sneakier way than to express it outright.

Is no one else angry listening to Sam talking about Fez after all the shit he put him through? Those weren't just Radio bits. Sam tormented Fez for air time. The fact that Sam brought up one of the most known Fez bits just proves he didn't listen to Fez bits all weekend.
