I'm sure Kurt Angle has had countless nights without sleep over the fact that an internet dirtsheet oddball never gave him a bullshit five star rating.

@@Thurmanatr16 I don't think that is a fair comparison, since Kurt was also better than pretty much anybody in WWE right now as well Wrestling as a whole has only had a handful of legitimate gold metal level athletes, and of those few, only Kurt also had a mind for the nuances of the entertainment side almost immediately, he was truly a rare breed in any generation.

Most people in wrestling definitely read him every week. Lots of guys talked to him regularly. And Meltzer was actually close friends with a few... particularly Bruiser Brody and Brian Pillman.
@danpoutsma13515 ай бұрын
@Rjensen2 Anybody who spoke/speaks to Meltzer did and/does so to further their own agenda. He's the ultimate mark who is easily manipulated. He oftentimes reports stuff that is completely inaccurate just because he talked to somebody who heard something juicy second or third hand. Some have even called him out for reporting false information about them when he could've just easily picked up the phone and called them because he had their number to ask them directly to verify it's truth before writing it. He's not so much a legitimate journalist reporting facts as he is a lazy gossip peddler. And his so-called friends that allow him "access" and have stooged stuff off to him over the years always get positive things said about them. So, anything he reports is not to be taken seriously or as objective. He's proven that he's easily influenced/manipulated. But sadly, he's the one doing the influencing now and that's why companies like AEW are Iin the piss poor state they are in because the wrestlers have become marks and the billionaire promoter/booker is your stereotypical internet mark booking the show for other internet marks who worship and blindly follow Dave because he's supposedly an expert on what makes a good match or wrestler even though he's never actually wrestled, booked or promoted anything himself.

Does anyone outside of AEW care what Meltzer thinks about anything?
@knightshousegames5 ай бұрын
Really, I don't even think a ton of people in AEW care about Melzer, just a handful of spot monkeys and their buddy/guy who signs their paychecks It really does feel like history repeating itself. A couple of Shawn Michaels knockoffs have manufactured their own Bret Hart out of CM Punk, and just like the 90s, The boss is buddies with The Kliq, so Bret has to go rather than Shawn, even though it was Bret bringing in the ratings. The shame of it is AEW has an incredible roster, and some people really thrive in that environment, it's just the people who decide who gets to thrive are the problem

Here's something completely funny to think about imagine if jr had started a star rating system at any point in his career old Dave probably would have been irrelevant a decade or two ago if he would have even became relevant at all 😂😂 jr's ratings wouldve had actual credibility because some of these five star bangers are great matches but you can see daves bias in every star he hands out (or doesnt in some cases) i never cared about dudes ratings whoever told him his opinion mattered all those years ago made a huge mistake

If Dave just kept his critique to the written word & didn't use the numerical star system it would be a lot better. At this point getting people to talk about weather they like it or not, is just free publicity & getting his gimmick over regardless of good or bad recognition.
